Some of the members of the Gratitude Discussion Group were interested in having a place to share recipes and food ideas. I’m hoping that we can use this thread as a place to have that kind of discussion. I’d love to hear your ideas for quick meals, comfort food, healthy snacks, and more.

Personally, I’ve just been through a bad reaction to one of my medications that left me with a very queasy stomach. I would love to hear ideas – or recipes – that might be used when you need to get something on your stomach, but don’t want to overdo it.

Hopefully, this thread will even be a place where we can share recipes for special treats and yummy rewards. It doesn’t always have to be healthy!

I’d love to hear from members who have been part of other discussions AND from new members who have good ideas, recipes and food tips to share. I’m excited to see who might start us off here with an awesome food suggestion!

@hopeful33250 I hate to bring this up, but are they healthy recipes, or things that would be an occasional indulgence? If they are older, heirloom recipes then more likely they are not that healthy. I love my mother’s recipes but they are not the right things to be eating often. Maybe that’s why people died younger back then.
All that being said, where do I go to get this cookbook?

@contentandwell I am so glad you did as I thought the topic was about healthy eating. So many of the old recipes I grew up on are not healthy. I do not cook one bit like my mother did.

@contentandwell See my post above. This is the Caregivers Cookbook that @harriethodgson1published. It has some great recipes. As you can see from her post, she had a registered dietician helped her adjust the recipes so they would be healthier versions.

Maybe I should get one too. Although I was looking through one online and don’t understand why it says 12 minutes prep time on one recipe. I must not understand what prep time includes. But if it’s includes getting junk out peeling chopping measuring mixing etc. I will bet big money 💰that no one can do all that in the times listed.

Ok, @jakedduck1, I have to admit that I agree with you on the whole prep matter. I just don't like the whole chop, dice, etc. of veggies and stuff. (My hands get tired.) Many produce stores though will have carrots already shredded and some in my area even onions and celery that are diced, etc. Also, you can find some food prep gizmos at your local kitchen store that will do the chopping, dicing, etc for you in just a few seconds. You might look into it.

@contentandwell Gosh, I must confess I don't measure anything! That's probably a curse to some [thinking @jakedduck1]. I start with about 1.5 pound ground turkey. I don't eat beef hardly at all. Ground turkey is my go-to along with chicken and fish. Handful or more of diced celery and another of the same amount of diced onion, all fresh. Cup to cup and a half of pasta sauce. If you don't have that try salsa or tomato sauce. Oatmeal about 1 cup or so, helps bind things together rather than breadcrumbs, and will give you a solid loaf. One or two eggs. If you are using veggies you can take and mash them up if you want. Spices I just keep shaking the shakers until it looks like enough. I am fond of pepper, and salt free multi spices like Mrs. Dash. Garlic either fresh or minced add a little bit of a taste component, too. Everything gets mixed well together using my hands and baked. Like I said you can be very creative with it!

@gingerw I made the meatloaf for dinner and it was very good. I did it with just one pound of ground turkey, 93%lean, added about 2/3 C oatmeal, a tomato basil sauce that I bought over the weekend from Whole Foods, sauteed celery and onion, and some Tuscan Herbs seasoning (it comes in a grinder bottle). My husband didn't have much hope for it when he heard we were having turkey meatloaf but he ended up having seconds! There was some sauce leftover so we used that on top of the slices and put a little home grated pecorino romano on top. Yum!
Thanks for the idea. I wasn't sure how long to cook it for so I googled turkey meatloaf recipes and there were many online too.

@harriethodgson1 @hopeful33250 Sounds good, I think I will buy it. As if I don't already have enough cookbooks, but at my age, I like simple recipes and since dietary concerns have been addressed, that's a huge plus.

@lioness The meatloaf was a little bit soft, but it held together and tasted good.

@lioness, @contentandwell - I use Martha Stewart's recipe. I only use 1 lb of turkey burger and I don't think that I use all of the ketchup. https://www.marthastewart.com/316391/classic-meatloaf

@merpreb This is the way I always did my meatloaf being from Heinz area used the ketchup .lol. I also add chop peppers,carrots @celery in at times also Instead of ketchup I,ok too with cocktail sauce different taste
