Recipes, Food Tips, Healthy Eating & More

Some of the members of the Gratitude Discussion Group were interested in having a place to share recipes and food ideas. I’m hoping that we can use this thread as a place to have that kind of discussion. I’d love to hear your ideas for quick meals, comfort food, healthy snacks, and more.

Personally, I’ve just been through a bad reaction to one of my medications that left me with a very queasy stomach. I would love to hear ideas – or recipes – that might be used when you need to get something on your stomach, but don’t want to overdo it.

Hopefully, this thread will even be a place where we can share recipes for special treats and yummy rewards. It doesn’t always have to be healthy!

I’d love to hear from members who have been part of other discussions AND from new members who have good ideas, recipes and food tips to share. I’m excited to see who might start us off here with an awesome food suggestion!

Hi All:

I'm really excited. Last week I ordered a copy of The Family Caregiver's Cookbook that @harriethodgson1 published. It was quite inexpensive on Thriftbooks.com and the price, even with delivery, was only about $5 and it arrived today. (As a special bonus, my copy was even autographed!) It has some great, easy to make recipes (that even @jakedduck1 could do). The one that looked especially delightful was for custard. Yum!

Thank you for ordering The Family Caregiver's Cookbook, a collection of family and original recipes. Each recipe has a mini story and ends with caregiver tips. The recipe for Harriet's Double Almond Cookies is missing 1 teaspoon of baking soda. Please pencil it in. These cookies are winners!

Maybe I should get one too. Although I was looking through one online and don’t understand why it says 12 minutes prep time on one recipe. I must not understand what prep time includes. But if it’s includes getting junk out peeling chopping measuring mixing etc. I will bet big money 💰that no one can do all that in the times listed.

@hopeful33250 I hate to bring this up, but are they healthy recipes, or things that would be an occasional indulgence? If they are older, heirloom recipes then more likely they are not that healthy. I love my mother’s recipes but they are not the right things to be eating often. Maybe that’s why people died younger back then.
All that being said, where do I go to get this cookbook?

With the exception of a few recipes, all have reduced sugar, salt and fat. A registered dietitian helped me reduce these ingredients for healthy eating. Olive oil is the primary fat. If salt is listed, it can be omitted. The chapter titled "Sweet Tooth" contains dessert recipes, an occasional indulgence. The book is available from Amazon.

The food consultant who helped me is a Mayo Clinic dietitian.
