Recipes, Food Tips, Healthy Eating & More

Some of the members of the Gratitude Discussion Group were interested in having a place to share recipes and food ideas. I’m hoping that we can use this thread as a place to have that kind of discussion. I’d love to hear your ideas for quick meals, comfort food, healthy snacks, and more.

Personally, I’ve just been through a bad reaction to one of my medications that left me with a very queasy stomach. I would love to hear ideas – or recipes – that might be used when you need to get something on your stomach, but don’t want to overdo it.

Hopefully, this thread will even be a place where we can share recipes for special treats and yummy rewards. It doesn’t always have to be healthy!

I’d love to hear from members who have been part of other discussions AND from new members who have good ideas, recipes and food tips to share. I’m excited to see who might start us off here with an awesome food suggestion!

Head pain is often associate with cervical problems, @parus. I suppose you've mentioned the head pain to your docs? If not, do so.

I hope you get some pain relief soon!! You might try some ice and/or heat on the back of your neck and see if that helps. Perhaps an OTC lidocaine patch? Those are my go-to remedies for that kind of pain. Might be worth a try? (If all else fails, rub a little Vicks on your neck - my standby).

@hopeful33250 Thanks again. Yes, I have mentioned it many times. Afraid there is no help this time. All things helping in the past will not help this time. Was told by orthopedic doc to go back to pain specialist. That is not until the end of April. Is what it is. Frustrating to eat wisely only to see it does not help.
It has been said we are what we eat. I am becoming a mushroom. 🙂

@parus Is the head pain in the back of your head? That is where my pain is when it is from the cervical problems. Also, I suppose you know to take lots of breaks when you are holding your head in one position and move around- like when you are drawing, etc.? That is when I get in trouble - when being in one position, like over the computer, etc. for an extended period of time.

@parus- Good morning. Eating wisely will also help keep other beasties away. Eating wisely always helps. You are not a mushroom, haha.

@contentandwell Hey JK, I’m on an IPad and that’s it. I don’t have another device. I wish someone knew what to do. It started yesterday. But I had work done yesterday between the iPad and iPhone, I’m remembering! Geez, I hope the Apple rep didn’t steer
Me wrong!.......Karen

@karen00 maybe when they were working with it they reset things. Do you have to do a full login every time you get on? If so, then it's more than that. I have had great Apple reps work on things for me, and some who were not so great. They are in the minority though.

Last night I fixed a "kitchen meatloaf", my favorite kind. Always 1-1.5 lbs ground turkey, celery, onions, oatmeal, pasta sauce [sometimes adding in salsa!], egg, spices, leftover veggies if there are any in the fridge. Mix well, bake at 350 for about an hour. Steamed up Mexican squash, added a side green salad, plus biscuits for husband. Yum good! Sent him off to work today with leftover squash and some meatloaf for lunch. @jakedduck1, even you could manage this!

@gingerw It's been years since I have made meatloaf but now I really want to, especially if it can be done with turkey. Would you mind posting quantities of each? I am particularly curious about the oatmeal. Thanks.

@hopeful33250 I sure do know to take breaks. Yes, it is in the back of my head. Things became much worse after a PT became too aggressive as some can be. Really made the pain so much worse. It did get me a CT and now see things can be worse. Taking it easy I can assure everyone!! No drawing since then☹️

@contentandwell Gosh, I must confess I don't measure anything! That's probably a curse to some [thinking @jakedduck1]. I start with about 1.5 pound ground turkey. I don't eat beef hardly at all. Ground turkey is my go-to along with chicken and fish. Handful or more of diced celery and another of the same amount of diced onion, all fresh. Cup to cup and a half of pasta sauce. If you don't have that try salsa or tomato sauce. Oatmeal about 1 cup or so, helps bind things together rather than breadcrumbs, and will give you a solid loaf. One or two eggs. If you are using veggies you can take and mash them up if you want. Spices I just keep shaking the shakers until it looks like enough. I am fond of pepper, and salt free multi spices like Mrs. Dash. Garlic either fresh or minced add a little bit of a taste component, too. Everything gets mixed well together using my hands and baked. Like I said you can be very creative with it!

Thanks @gingerw As I said, it was mainly the oatmeal I wasn't sure about. I think I may make this tomorrow. I prefer ground turkey for tacos but haven't used it for much else.

Good for you, @parus. Sometimes I do shoulder rolls to release some of the tension in the back of my neck. I roll my shoulders forward a few times and then back a few times. None of these suggestions cure anything but I feel I have to do something 😊
