Hearing Loss: Come introduce yourself and connect with others

Glad these new hearing aids helped your tinnitus. I am wondering if canal aids are better option for those of us with tinnitus. I have not used in-ear aids, so interesting to get opinion of others on whether those who have tinnitus feel they help the condition better than other type of aids.

Which specifically did you get from HEARtech? Did you order from a store or on line?

@cherriann HI The more I wear these hearing aids Im finding out that my tinnitus is down to a hum today, the clearness and crispness of voices is great and no background noise in a crowd so you hear the person you are talking to. The website is heartech.com

@lioness That's great that you were able to find a less expensive alternative. I always have hearing aid insurance that will replace my HAs if necessary. The type of thing you are mentioning, the EARGOs, would not help with severe hearing losses - mine is severe in one ear and profound in the other. I'm glad that it is helping your tinnitus too.

@cherriann Have you asked your audiologist if "in the ear" would be more help with tinnitus? If you have a good audiologist she/he should be able to provide the best guidance.

@tonyinmi I am sure the Hearing Aid Association of America is advocating for coverage. I hear that's a great group but they have no chapters close to me at all.

@scottk Isn't it great to find a professional that you really like? I'd be interested in hearing what the apps she recommended are.

@katyrae83 Your daughter's situation sounds extremely complex and unusual. I have very little to say since I too am just a hearing disabled person, but I found out recently that your blood pressure can affect your hearing! I don't remember if it gets worse when your BP is high, or the opposite. That being the case with BP, it does not surprise me that hormones can also affect hearing. I would definitely want to hear opinions from two or three very highly regarded professionals before doing something that is permanent, like a CI.

By the way, as we all know, hearing aids are quite costly. For any of you who are in the New City Area or in the Fort Lauderdale, Florida areas, the Center for Hearing and Communications (CHC) provides hearing aids on a sliding scale based on income. My daughter used to work for them in NYC and there's a great audiologist there, Ellen LaFargue. I would highly recommend her. You can also go there if you are not in need of financial assistance.

Thank you so much for update on how the new hearing aids are working for your tinnitus, lioness. I am going to check out heartech site and do a little research on them. I would sure be pleased if I could purchase aids that helped more than the ones I presently have that were very expensive, but really have did "nothing" to lessen noise. Me and my wallet would be thrilled if I could find a pair that wouldn't be so costly and above all, help me hear better! Is there a specific type or model number that you purchased?

@lisaschwichtenberg One thing to be aware of with the newer Signia's is that teleprogramming is possible. This is where you can request programming changes without having to go to the audiologist's office. Hopefully, you're audiologist is on board with this and explains it to you.

I wear hearing aids, Oticons, but I’ve been hearing a lot about Signia recently too. I hope they will help you. For many people there is a “break-in period” as they adjust to them so if that happens don’t get discouraged. Also, your audiologist will probably need to adjust them a few times to make sure they are doing all they can to help you, if your audiologist does “real ear measurement” that is very helpful. I asked about it at mine and for some reason my audiologist generally only does that for pediatric patients but she was happy to do it for me and it did lead to some adjustments which were helpful.

I will be interested in hearing how you are doing with them.

@cherriann They have 2 kinds the in the canal which I have and the behind the ear kind . Yes check them out . I like mine but am afraid I might lose them I should of gotten the behind the ear kind . You can read about each one.
