Hearing Loss: Come introduce yourself and connect with others
Welcome to the Hearing Loss group on Mayo Clinic Connect.
This is a welcoming, safe place where you can meet people living with hearing loss, and friends and family supporters. Whether you were born deaf or hard of hearing, experienced hearing loss after birth or with aging, it helps to connect with others. Together we can learn from each other, support one another and share stories about living with hearing loss, coping with challenges and celebrating milestones.
Let’s chat. Why not start by introducing yourself? What is your hearing loss experience? Got a question, tip or story to share?

Wow thanks for the heads up here. This is why this forum is so important . I learn something important today. I am going to find out of the setting for FaceTime can be forwarded so to speak to the cellphone setting. If you could though; check and see if lipreading contributes to better understanding on FaceTime -
As for your appearance , your son will still love you whether hair combed or not.
@contentandwell Guess you,ll have to keep your hair comb lol I can beat that I'm still in my nightclothes
Why phones are better when folks could not be seen
Come on- be okay. Nightclothes. Purple wigs. Hairs unconnected
@contentandwell @bookysue @lioness Skype is another option. We just had someone present on it at our HLAA Chapter meeting last week. The benefit of Skype is that it has live captions and subtitles. It is a free app also.
Knew about Skype but I did not know it has captions and subtitles. Why is this not being used more- or is it only good in urban cities for connectable ease ?
@bookysue when we were first talking I had the phone turned away so I could at least comb my hair so it’s not a case of lip reading.
I asked my husband why FaceTime might be clearer and he theorized that perhaps FaceTime uses the internet whereas regular calls are on regular phone lines. Just a theory though. @johnbishop do have any thoughts on this?

@lioness. I did nothing today, due to a headache and an upset stomach. I’m sure the headache is spring allergies but I’m not sure about the stomachache.
JK
New meds?
@bookysue no new meds, just spring allergies I think. I’ve been waking with a headache a lot.

@contentandwell and @bookysue, I think the video/audio quality depends on multiple things - using cellular data vs Wi-Fi, speed of your Internet connection/service, any interference and settings for the app you are using. Here's some info that may be helpful.
