Shingrix and peripheral neuropathy

Posted by joannerhodes @joannerhodes, Feb 1, 2019

4 days after my 2nd Shingrix vaccination, I suddenly developed intense peripheral neuropathy in both feet...for the first time in my life...anyone else?

@jonnyd

I also developed PN 4 days after receiving the second Shingrix shot, but I also got the flu shot at the same time.

Hi jonnyd, I'm so sorry to hear this! PN is awful! I have it pretty bad myself. As said prior, both the Shingles Shingrix and Influenza vaccines are dead viruses. Who knows where the PN comes from, Ug. Warmest regards, Sunnyflower

Just to clarify some points. I am NOT an anti-vacser but rather an RN with 57 yrs in the profession. I did not make this decision capriciously. What I would like is information about how to find a site for Class Action Lawsuit or Tort for those who have experienced unusual and challenging outcomes from Shingrix. I know many who have had NO side effects from Shingrix. I also know I am putting myself at some risk of Shingles, which I had in 2011 following the first shingles shot in 2009. I had a mild case then. Shingrix can have a nerve root influence. Also, Chicken pox has a nerve root link. My doctors here in Albuquerque, NM have not been able to give me guidance about a Class Action Lawsuit of Tort.

Helloo memomsloan, since both the Shingles Shingrix and influenza vaccines are inactivate aka dead viruses, do you supposed it's the medium they are in? I got both my 2nd Shingrix and influenza vaccines at the same time this year. Thankfully no unwanted side-effects. Warmest regards, Sunnyflower

@bustrbrwn22 @jesfactsmon Hi, Hank and Jen, Just to let you guys know, I would never get a shingles vaccine, nor have I ever even had a flu shot. I get weird side effects from meds in general, and have always been leary of vaccinations. However, I will definitely do a Covid vaccine if ever a safe one is found. How could I not? Meanwhile, took my SE Asian leaf today, if you know what I mean, and pain went from a 7-8, to gone. So I will be happy for about 4 hours now. And, I just found out from Jen that my husband Stu and I are curly haired cuties!!! So all is good!!! Love to you guys, Lori

Hi Guys, I was just thinking of something. Since the Shingles Shingrix and the influenza vaccines are both inactivated aka dead viruses, I wonder if the PN outcome for some of you is caused by the medium the dead viruses are in? Just a thought. Hope you all are more than tolerable today. Warm regards, Sunnyflower @bustrbrwn22, @jesfactsmon

@vustrbrwn22, If you know anyone who in their later years has had Shingles you would not wonder if you should get the Shingles Shots.. The Vaccines have gone through so much rigor to be tested and finally marketed .... the probability of good results is well established and documented .. go to your pharmacy, get the name of the company that developed the vaccine .. go online to communicate with that company to establish trust.. the anti-vaccine crowd are skeptics who want to blame government for most anything... but do not mess around ... get the shots or you may spend weeks, even months with needless pain... Ken

Hi Ken82, yes, if one were to get the awful shingles, it can hurt badly for up to a year, worst case scenario! Imentioned this earlier that both the Shingles Shingrix and the influenza vaccines are inactivated aka dead so I got mine both on the same day, different sides, with no unwanted side-effects. And, I'm taking two immunosuppressant drugs daily and have a zillion health probs/diseases. I wonder if people might be reacting to the medium these inactivated viruses are in? Mmmmm. Take care, Sunnyflower @bustrbrwn22

Hi Jeff, are you saying that you are aware of at least one lawsuit against Shingrix? or the previous Zostavax?? Don

I just googled lawsuits and shingles vaccination. I got many hits which were from law firms essentially advertising for their class action lawsuits against Merck for alleged adverse reactions to Zostavax, I didn't see any about Shingrix.
The lawsuits claim the vaccine caused anything from a mild rash, to actual shingles , to brain swelling to death, and many others. I didn't see anything about them causing PN.
Most of the postings about class action lawsuits I read were poorly written with many factual errors and to my mind baseless claims, but that's the way they work. There are often settlements made by the manufacturers because it is the smartest financial decision, not because the claims are correct.
I have not taken the time to research the results of these lawsuits, because I am convinced the the benefit of the vaccines outweigh any of the rare adverse reactions, real or imaginary. The results of lawsuits are a legal, not medical matter, and often have nothing to do with the accuracy of the claims.

I thought my husband and I would get the shingles vaccine this year. I am so glad
I found all this information. I am really re-thinking this decision as I don’t think I could add the pain from the vaccine to the pain I already have. No one knows what causes definitively my lichen planus and interstitial cystitis but some things I’ve read point to stress and/or anxiety. I am extremely anxious by nature and this might cause a worse outcome. Can’t any decision be easy anymore? Any thoughts/recommendations from anyone?

Hey Rachel! Lichen Planuc can be caused by auto-immune Dz and intersitial cystitis, who knows. I get it. None of us want more pain!!!!! Gross understatemtent!!!!!!!!!! I think you've read my today's posts by now but just in case, here is the way I look at it. The shingles are brutal. They can be the worst pain ever and can last many, many months. Both the Shingles Shingrix and the influenza vaccines are inactivated aka dead. I got mine both on the same day without incidence. I got to wondering after I made the posts w/ this info, if it might be the medium the dead viruses are in that are causing people problems. My hubby had a terrible reaction to a different medication due to the medium it was in. Just a thought. For me, no, almost every decision regarding medications are a no-win anymore. Lot's of pray for direction! Hope you are having a good day. Warmest hugs, sunnyflower

I had the one-shot shingles vaccination in 2012. My pharmacy (Walgreens) told me that they can give me the Shingrex (2 shots). I saw my mother suffer with Shingles; it was so debilitating that I am going to get the Shingrex and put up with any side effects. Walgreens advised me to not get the flu shot and Shingrex on the same day. I will get flu shot first, Shingrex a week later. Thanks for sharing your experiences with these immunizations. Peggy

Dearest Peggy, I am heartsick just reading and thinking about what your precious mother went through w/ Shingles!!!!! I think you may have read my posts from today by now; that both the Shingles Shingrix and the influenza vaccines are denatured aka dead viruses. I got both mine on the same day, different sides without any unwanted side-effects and I am taking two immunosuppressant drugs daily! Nothing wrong with waiting either. Hope you are having a good day. Warmest regards, Sunnyflower

@jesfactsmon I had chickenpox in high school. If I got the shingrex
Vaccine is it possible my nerve pain could get even worse as an adverse reaction to the virus others are talking about? Oh my god! I also had a small shingles outbreak under my Right armpit all the way under my right breast. It must have been a mild case. Can I get this shit again??!!

Just got done meeting with the curly top cuties. Take some pain pills and a nap.

@bustrbrwn22
Jen, according to the Mayo website, if you have not had chickenpox you will not develop shingles. But if you come into close contact with someone who has shingles you might develop chicken pox. So if you have not had chickenpox you probably can get by w.o. the shot. Just avoid closeness with anyone with shingles. But that is just what I read, and as you know, I am not a doctor (or even a nurse). Hank
