Has anyone used CBD oil for chronic pain? And do you have results?

Posted by rensacb @rensacb, Jan 22, 2019

I'm a chronic pain suffer of 35+ years. Scoliosis is the culprit. Not a disfiguring curve but non the less painfully destructive. Almost every disc is bulging from 3mm to 6mm. I've had 2 spinal fusion. C 3-7 and L 4-5. Have 4 nerve root impengements with spondylosis in some areas and stenosis at interval from neck to sacral. Take steroid shots when I can with positive results for a few weeks. Always have Norco 5mg/325 ready if needed. Unfortunately I have found the best way to keep pain down is to lie down. So most of my days are spent on my bed. Any suggestions?

There is a lot of hype about this currently. I have been a chronic pain patient for a decade now. I have tried both the oil and some ointment which ultimately led me to the conclusion they do not work on me. I have a feeling this result will be quite common for those who have been on opiods and other medications for long periods of time. I have often wondered if the THC is what would be of more benefit but the laws in my State and the contract I have signed with my physician prevent me from investigating it any further.

When I hear it does not work for arthritic pain I am guess that your dose is not high enough or it’s not taken frequently enough. It does take experimentation. They suggest increasing the dose after a one week trial of each strength. It took me at least a month. I think people are too cautious. Increase by at least 25% each time. This is how it’s done in hospice nursing of which I’ve been for 39 years. Also it needs much more than once a day. I found good relief taking 3 dropper fulls every 4 hours while awake. Please keep trying.

I have Complex Region Pain Syndrome type 2. My pain is undescribable! My pain level is from 0-50, not 10. The Dr told me that and I didn't feel like such a cry baby then! Lol! But it is very severe chronic pain, it started when zi fractured my right wrist, pain was so intense (2015), surgeon couldn't figure out why I was in so much pain. Well, I've had 10 surgeries now on that wrist and arm, but it needs to be treated within 6 months, then the possibility of it going into remission are good. It took 2 years, there's no cure, and they still don't know how to treat it. It spreads from limb to limb, attacks your organs, and effects my short term memory. But it's in my right and left wrist and hands, I have little to no function in them anymore, it's in both feet and going up my right leg, walking is difficult, but it feels like I've got huge boulders in the bottom of my feet and I'm walking in them. They're also very deformed, my wrists and hands are to, my wrists haven't been able to move for 3 years. The pain is bad, when I get a flare up, the pain only continues to intensify and it can last 2 days to 10 days with constant intensifying pain, no sleep, can't feed myself, can't walk, it's horrible. 6 months ago my husband walked in the door and said, " here, try this, open your mouth, (of course I didn't ask questions I was desperate and I did) well, about an hour later I was sleeping like a baby. I guess I was kind of out of it, but I didn't complain he said, The following day he put something oily in my mouth again, just sat and stared, no complaining. Finally that evening I looked at him and said "I feel messed up" . It worked though. He bought me two different ones, but gave me the CBD oil with THC those two days, laughing he brought me another bottle of CBD oil with no THC. I take 1000-1500 mg a day of that CBD oil, it's works better than anything. Of course it don't take all pain away, but about 20 min after I take it, I can walk. Without it, Give me 3 days and I cannot walk due to pain and lack of function. I live in MI, so he can go to a dispensary and buy it. The stuff on internet did not work. The name brand us ,"Blue Sage,". I suggest it to everybody, but no THC. Lol

I’m so glad you found some relief from your severe pain. It shows that a smal dose discourages those who just try for awhile with no satisfaction. Too many are afraid of higher doses.

@janhilaski, @margito, what a honest and helpful post. You are so experienced and your recommendation of a dropper full every four hours reminds us to stay ahead of the pain. Thank you. And just a note from my experience. You need to have at least a 2:1 CBD to THC dosage. I have just spent five days packing and making decisions about so many things as I prepared to move after selling my home in the mountains. It was mentally and physically exhausting. With my SFN in high gear, I would not have been able to do it. I found that a 1:1 CBD to THC was even more helpful in the afternoon. So after a day of rest, I will make my way to the dispensary to replenish my tinctures before flying to my new home. I also have good success with a 3:1 topical for the needle-like pain in my hands. Once again, the recommendation to stay ahead of the pain would be the same..... 3 to 4 applications a day. Be safe and enjoy some pain free hours and even days. Chris

My condition is utterly different than yours, but I do live with excruciating pain, and I do find that CBD oils work well. There are two I recommend, and researched them for hours on line. One is a salve, that you put on your skin where you hurt. It is fabulous for me. The other is a liquid that you put under your tongue. You take a dropper full, twice a day. It is relaxing, and removes you from your pain. I get these products from two different companies, and think they are quite good. The salve is from "Ananda." Ananda makes only one salve and it is spectrum salve 125. I have severe peripheral neuropathy and it is very good on my throbbing feet and toes. The other product is from a company, CBD Distillery. The product is full spectrum 1000 mg CBD oil. That is what you put under your tongue, and is very relaxing without the high of marijuana. CBD Distillery also has stronger than 1000 mg oils, but I have not tried them. Anyway, these are moderately priced, and work. Like I said, I spent hours of research to find the right companies to buy from . I am happy with my choices. Best of luck to you. Pain can utterly take over your life.

I would have to cross the US/Canada border and that is not allowed in either country. It’s just that when Canada allowed all marijuana to become legal the suppliers weren’t prepared for the demand.

The CBd products I described to you contain no marijuana. They are from the hemp plant, but contain no THC, which is the active ingredient in marijuana. They are legal in Canada. Just go to Ananda.com and CBD Distillery.com these companies sell CBD oils without active marijuana, and are legal. The products have wonderful effects for pain.

also, you would order this product on line. you would have to find out the price of shipping to Canada.

I also have chronic back pain after 3 surgeries and some compression fractures over the past 4 years and have spinal stenosis. I have usd CBD oil drops for the past 5 months and have had very good results. Once a level was established and used every 4-5 hours my pain went from 6 to 3. I have had no side effects. The regular medicines I was instructed to decrease was Voltaren for my arthritis and glimepiride. Good luck.
