Side Effects of Metoprolol?
Just started this med for spiking blood pressure in evening. Has anyone experienced severe stomach pain from this, or insomnia? I take with food, and the pain started almost 18 hours later!

Hello @scardycat
Could you share with us how long it took before you adjusted to this med?
I started October 18, 2018, the first month was very bad brain fog, fatigue a few wierd dreams, I’d say that was at least six weeks, I amped up my exercise and fatigue lessened, and I have to say I notice nothing now so I feel blessed being able to tolerate it.
Oh I take .25 mg XR, once in the morning.
I have taken 25 mgms Xr for 10 years and take it in the morning.
I’d also encourage you to view another very informative discussion on Connect, about Metoprolol: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/weaning-off-metoprolol/

My bp went up to 160/100 and I had some 25 mg extended release around that my doc prescribed last time I saw him. Didn’t take them then and decided to try them. Split them in half and took one at night and the other in the morning. Only 2 days and don’t like the way they make me feel. My question is do I have to wean off of only 2 days usage?
I have been on this med for several years and have had no problems. I take mine in the evening after a meal.
You need to give it time, I had the same experience then after about 2 weeks had no side effects at all, they will go away give it some time👍🏻
I was on Metoprolol ER succinate 50mg for several weeks, with heat activated rashes on my legs. Cardiologist switched me out to Carvedilol 6.25 mg, 2X a day. Initially, my rashes went away, but they have returned on my new med! Ugh!
How much bp drop can you expect taking metoprolol? I know Individual results vary, but on average what can I expect? I currently have a resting pulse in the 50’s and am concerned about taking this after reading about lowering of heart rate. Don’t want to put up with the side effects if benefit doesn’t out weigh the negative effects.
