Hi, @humpty - I'd like to add my welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I'd like to suggest you also check out this thread on TBI https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/adult-life-after-a-tbi.

What medication are you taking currently for anxiety?

Hi @pjss48 you may have noticed I added this discussion to the Depression & Anxiety group, as well as the Mental Health group, so that more Connect members would be see your post and join in on this discussion.

I wanted to tag fellow Connect members @mamacita @annedodrill44 and @johnhans as they have discussed these things in the past and may be able to offer support for you.

@pjss48 at this point, what are some ways you have tried to handle your nervousness and worry? Have you found anything that is successful? Or is this a recent development?

I worry constantly, every day. It has gotten a lot worse since my husband had a widowmakers heart attack. I was told that few survive and when he was put into a coma I think I was in shock. Ever since that episode I watch him to make sure he’s breathing, jump when there’s a loud noise in our house, or worry when he looks tired. The thought of losing him causes me incredible anxiety.

Hello. I've been having alot of trouble with my and and panic attacks. As strange as this sounds I have trouble with just letting my thoughts flow. It's like I'm scared of my own thoughts after having anxiety and panic attacks. It's like I'm constantly scared of my thoughts. I just can't calm down and just think freely. Does anyone relate to what I'm going through?

Hi Farmboy, I can totally relate.... I have finally been able to get my anxiety under semi-control. I had my first panic Attabk about 6 weeks ago and it was the worst experience of my life! Get a therapist... get on some medication and face this head on.... seems almost impossible but has worked(so far) for me. Take good care my friend !
Much love!

They have me on effexor, Wellbutrin and Seroquel. But my anxiety and panic attacks are so strong that they won't hardly go away. It's crazy what anxiety and panic attacks can do to you. I feel like I'm going crazy. Very scary.

Hi @farmboy - how are you doing today? If you are still having the strong symptoms you described yesterday, I'd strongly encourage you to call your primary care doctor or go back to the ER doctor who was so helpful. Sounded like input from a doctor is warranted.

Hello, they got my meds adjusted so my anxiety and panic attacks are not to bad. It's the after math now. I over analyze my thoughts always questioning my thinking. I'll get something in my head, like I'm forgetting things and it will stay in mind like a broken record. Or I feel like I'm in a fog and it bothers the hell out of me. I will play that thought like a broken record in my mind. That's how may thinking is constantly. What is wrong with me??? I've been like this since I had my anxiety and panic attacks. Has anyone else had these types of problems??

@farmboy It's good that you have addressed your medications with your doctors. Forgetting something is something that everyone does to a degree and as we get older, it's quite common. If you have important appointments then use whatever works to record and remember them like a pocket calendar, or notes on the bathroom mirror. I do that. None of us are perfect, and it's best not to put that expectation on yourself. Do your best, but give yourself a break when you make a mistake. Did you accept someone else's opinion and beliefs that making mistakes is bad? I used to try to be perfect too, and it can be good to challenge yourself, but we can learn much more from our mistakes than from success. The important thing is to believe in yourself. I lived through a few months of panic attacks over my fear of surgery, and I figured out how to deprogram that fear. I had a choice to make because without the spine surgery that I needed, I would become disabled. It didn't make sense to me to let my fears make that choice, and I used everything I had within my personal experience to overcome the anxiety. I did go to a counselor to make sure I was on the right track, but I had already done the hard work myself, and figured out where in my past this unreasonable fear had come from. We are born without fears, and somewhere in our lives, fears are learned behaviors. Understanding that opens the door to figure out how to "unlearn" the behavior and find a new way to think about something. This is possible and you can do it if you really want to overcome it. Here is my story...
