Copd, pulmonary fibrosis, mac bacterial infection and honeycomb lung

My husband has been diagnosed with all four of these and I just want to understand more about what is to be expected. And what I can do to help.

Hi @tmmmrlts, As Merry suggested, I have deleted the message with your husband's radiology report. It contains personal identifying information about your husband and should not be shared on a public forum like Connect. We want to keep you and your husband's information safe.

Understanding pathology reports can be very challenging. It is important not to get tangled in the details until you have time to go over the report with your husband's pulmonologist and/or infectious disease specialist. In my opinion, the best thing that you can do between now and the appointment is to keep pen and paper nearby and to jot your thoughts and questions down. Just write them down. Then before the appointment, organize your questions into priority order.

Here are a few suggestions that I have pulled from the fears and concerns you shared above. Maybe this will help you get started.

1. You have mentioned several conditions. Can you explain what my husband has?
2. What treatment options are there?
3. What do we need to do?
4. Will he die?
5. What do I as a caregiver need to know? How can I get help?
6. What is the next step after today's appointment?

I hope this helps. My husband always says put "worry into action." Writing down your questions instead of leaving them to bounce around in your head might help. What do you think?

@colleenyoung I thank you for taking that down for me. I have already been writing down questions. I think I will be adding a few questions from your list so I might have some peace of mind.

@tmmmrlts- I'm so glad that you will at least get a second opinion. Has your husband put put on the list for lungs? I wish you the best. Please keep me informed. I hope that you have better days ahead.

He has to sleep laying on his stomach and he has to lay down a lot. His chest on his left side hurts a lot of the time. He can just be sitting there talking and he gets out of air. He doesn't want oxygen. He is 54 and we have been married 36 years. I just dont know what I can do. I pat on his back to try and break stuff loose and rub it to relax him.
His first lung dr gave up on him. He told him " he gave up on him because he hadn't quit smoking"
Now this lung dr is better he changed some med and is talking to a dr about a new treatment. But he started smoking and now that is delaying everything. We are trying to quit.

you must make him quit now or never, my wife and I were both big time smokers we tried SHANTEX AND IT WORKED. GET YOUR DOCTOR TO PERSCRIBE AT ONCE. the temptation just goes away, after APPROX-2 WEEKS. you could try it with out his knowledge, if he takes it he WILL STOP/ thank you for your story, hope this helps.
