Hi, Mahdi. Welcome to Connect. Mayo Clinic Connect is an online community where you can share your experiences and find support from people like you. I would like to help you. Would you share what brought you to Connect? What question do you have about Primary Biliary Cholangitis or Autoimmune Hepatitis.

Mahdi,
My original diagnosis was autoimmune hepatitis. I was diagnosed at the age of 12 and had my first liver transplant at age 22 in 1995. I received a second liver transplant due to graft failure of the first one at age 34 in 2007. I then ended up with kidney failure due to the anti-rejection meds in 2010 with a living donor-related kidney transplant in 2012.

Having lived with autoimmune disease for the majority of my life, I would be happy to answer any questions I can regarding this particular aspect.

@lisababs, @mahdi123,
On Connect, I am a patient, just like you. I do not have any experience with either Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC) or with Autoimmune Hepatitis (AIH). I have experiencer another form of liver disease, and so I can relate to your concern about your disease.

I want to share some information from Mayo Clinic about both liver diseases, as well as information about contacting Mayo Clinic about appointment. When you make an appointment, you can learn where to send your records.

Autoimmune hepatitis is liver inflammation that occurs when your body's immune system turns against liver cells.

Primary biliary cholangitis, previously called primary biliary cirrhosis, is a chronic disease in which the bile ducts in your liver are slowly destroyed.

I share with anyone who asks, especially when someone sees me out and about wearing one of my numerous t-shirts that have to do with organ donation or transplants. If someone can benefit from my experiences, all the better. It is important to share and get the knowledge out there. Ironically, I found out at my 20-year high school class reunion that one of my classmates became a pediatric gastroenterologist and had encountered several patients over the years of his practice that had AIH. He was based in Seattle at that time but has since moved to Montana.

lisababs, Have you been able to get an appointment with a gastroenterologist (GI) or a liver specialist? How are you feeling?
