Gratitude Discussion Group

Posted by Debbra Williams, Alumna Mentor @debbraw, Nov 24, 2018

Hi everyone! Just before Thanksgiving @michellegraffradford posted a blog called Gratitude Changes Everything. She suggested three techniques to help incorporate gratitude into our daily lives:

  • Start the Day with Gratitude (before getting up think of three people you are grateful for)

  • Maintain a Gratitude Journal to record times when you are grateful

  • Count Blessings – not sheep! (Review the day and remember moments of gratitude)

Her blogpost was so inspiring that a lot of us decided we wanted to form a Gratitude Group to keep the attitude of gratitude going. The blogpost area is not an ideal space for a big discussion group so I am moving the discussion over here to the “Just Want to Talk” Group. Let’s use this space to share and discuss our Gratitude Journey. I’m going to suggest that we each try to take a minute from the day and post here what has made us feel thankful today. It can be as small as a stranger’s smile on the bus or as large as fulfilling a major life dream – or anywhere in between. We can also discuss how we are doing with the three techniques. Sometimes it is easier to form new habits with support from others.

Michelle's full blogpost is at the link below. You may want to review it or print it out to help get started!

I look forward to hearing from others in the Gratitude Group and to having others join us here! Thanks to those who already shared great stories. If you haven't yet, what gratitude will you share today?!

@lioness Yes, the HIPPA law can be a pain in the neck! But, there were times when it was really handy. Not in cases like yours, though. Can they/will they fax you a release form?

@becsbuddy They told me they sent it to my Dr,s office . Dr,s. office said they never got it so I went to Long Beach Memorial today and had a xray done . I was afraid I reinjured my old fracture but it showed I have osteoporosis and narrowing from T12 to L4 So I'm resuming my activities now on a limited basis Thanks for your concern and understanding

@lioness. I have no idea what those numbers mean, but I think I’m going to have to become much more knowledgeable about them.
Be careful of injuries though. None of us need to be miserable due to a fracture, something I am learning too well.

In grateful for my wonderful friends. Yesterday one came by to bring my mother something for her contracture and also brought us lunch plus milkshakes, a meatloaf, spaghetti and & meatballs type dish with crooked noodles, mashed potatoes and vegetables and some ice cream bars.
Aren’t friends wonderful.
Bon appetit,

Oh, my, @jakedduck1 , friends who understand the power of carb rich, comfort food!!!

Those are the best.....
Veggies and salad are great and wonderful. But when we are laid up. ..Going through a Fibroflare, got a pulled muscle, using a walker...

We need that comfort food. That soul food. That touch of home.

God bless the carers! So thankful for all of them! And ice cream sandwiches? We need more friends like that!!!

Love and light, and cyberhugs,
Mamacita Jane

I'm so grateful today for relief from ADS (antidepressant discontinuation symptoms). I stopped taking the 10 mg prozac that was prescribed as a bridge, as well as the vistaril for anxiety. I still experience some chemical anxiety but now that I can name it, I can deal with it. It was a huge comfort to find a benzo survivors support group on FB. I've found they are the ONLY people who truly understand the waves and windows that happen with drugs that affect the brain and CNS. Not even the members of effexor groups really get me! It was hard feeling like I was the only one having crazy symptoms. I feel like I am making peace with the situation. Thank you God.

@sandij Congratulations on your choices. Those crazy symptoms are difficult. Did so about 5 years ago and happy I did. I could once again see colors as they are supposed to be.

I’m grateful the A/C guys could install a new air conditioner today. That will help with the expected 107 temps later today.

@jakedduck1 I would be very grateful for that too! That was great service to get it fixed so quickly. We only have A/C in our bedroom but our house is extremely well insulated so the downstairs stays cool for most of the day if we keep the windows closed. We did have some very hot days over July 4th weekend when our kids were visiting. I felt bad for them. My son has an air conditioner that he bought when he still lived with us and he could have put it in the window but didn't bother to. I think he regretted that.

Mercy gracious, I wouldn’t want even one eeg cooked under the best of circumstances unless it’s in a desert or candy of some kind.

Soooo glad you have air! During our earlier heat wave I was talking to our daughter. She said that the window air she and her boyfriend had wasn't keeping up. Thanks to Walmart and the internet I bought her a second one and told her happy birthday early. Lol
