Gratitude Discussion Group

Posted by Debbra Williams, Alumna Mentor @debbraw, Nov 24, 2018

Hi everyone! Just before Thanksgiving @michellegraffradford posted a blog called Gratitude Changes Everything. She suggested three techniques to help incorporate gratitude into our daily lives:

  • Start the Day with Gratitude (before getting up think of three people you are grateful for)

  • Maintain a Gratitude Journal to record times when you are grateful

  • Count Blessings – not sheep! (Review the day and remember moments of gratitude)

Her blogpost was so inspiring that a lot of us decided we wanted to form a Gratitude Group to keep the attitude of gratitude going. The blogpost area is not an ideal space for a big discussion group so I am moving the discussion over here to the “Just Want to Talk” Group. Let’s use this space to share and discuss our Gratitude Journey. I’m going to suggest that we each try to take a minute from the day and post here what has made us feel thankful today. It can be as small as a stranger’s smile on the bus or as large as fulfilling a major life dream – or anywhere in between. We can also discuss how we are doing with the three techniques. Sometimes it is easier to form new habits with support from others.

Michelle's full blogpost is at the link below. You may want to review it or print it out to help get started!

I look forward to hearing from others in the Gratitude Group and to having others join us here! Thanks to those who already shared great stories. If you haven't yet, what gratitude will you share today?!

@lioness Linda, I'm so grateful your back didn't fracture. Two weeks ago I strained my lower back getting clothes out of the washing machine. The tub is very deep and because I'm vertically challenged I usually use a step stool to reach in. 🙄
Feel better!

@jakedduck1 I’m with you, Leonard. I do love our town, and it was a perfect size and atmosphere in which to raise children, but if I had the money I would move to Boston in a New York minute. These days, as we age, I really like the idea of not being too far from great medical care too.
My son and daughter were both more than ready to move to larger cities when they finished college, but even then, after my son moved to L.A., he once commented that our town had been a great place to grow up!
Leonard, for some reason I thought you lived further north in CA, but you live in the L.A. area? Busy area, for sure, and lots of traffic.

You were right, I live 300 miles north of congestion city. I’d like to live in LA somewhere if it didn’t take so long to get everywhere. Their freeways are parking lots. I live 89 miles east of San Francisco in the valley.
I hear Boston has major parking problems, probably similar to San Francisco.

@jakedduck1 Not sure of your definition of good-sized town. There are 875 people here, about 2100 in a town 18 miles north, 37,000 in the town 30 miles south. This Sat there is a community yard sale, and the coffee house is giving away maps of who will have sales!

@jakedduck1 yep, parking in Boston can be tough —- and expensive.

We have spent time in SF and L.A. because our son lived in Hermosa beach and my step-son lived in the SF area - San Carlos. The traffic seemed much worse around LA than around SF. I like SF, sort of like Boston..

I sometimes park at Union Square in San Francisco, $36.00 for the day.

I know I have mentioned before how my 4 year old grandson keeps me trying and how grateful I am for him. I did a paper mache landscape for his dinosaurs. He was thrilled!!
Here is a photo of his new dinosaur habitat.
