Pain under ribs for 9 years

Posted by houbrem @houbrem, Sep 21, 2018

I have had this pain on my right side, under my rib cage for 9 years. in the last month or so it has become chronic. I have had an MRI of the abdomen covering liver, pancreas, kidneys. They found an hemangioma in my liver and a cyst on my left kidney. They are telling me that this should not be causing me pain. The doctor cannot feel any lump as I think I do. but thinks it is my ribs. I am seeking another opinion from a different Gastroenterologist. She did suggest I see a surgeon to go in and explore because we can't seem to find anything wrong. But I explained that I am in pain everyday and now even when I bend at the waist I get a pain. which is new. Has anyone ever had anything like this. I don't know if I want surgery, too scared.

@houbrem Well, yes, 8 years of constant right side pain, but the docs said I had a nearly-ruptured appendix, first. That appendectomy stopped the pain for about 30 years. Then it started again, in the same place, and then someone stole my gall bladder, with its stones. But now, 20 years later, I have it again. But I have already lost my thyroid and goiter. But I know my liver is bad, Stage 4 thyroid fibrosis. And heart, spleen. and kidneys, lungs, etc. Just makes me a little angry, I suppose. It's the only way I can take off weight, I suppose. But I read today an article from the University of Helsinki about Subtleneuropsychiatric and neurocognitive changes in hereditary gelsolin amyloidosis (AGel) amyloidosis. They have found that one of the changes with the white matter deposit in the cerebrum cortex is quicker anger. That must be me, because I know my white matter deposit is growing. But nobody will bring back my organs.

The only suggestion I have is that you just might have some myofascial restrictions. That was the diagnosis I got and after seeking treatment for the layers of fascia around my rib cage the pain was reduced to occasional rather than constant. I also see a Myofascial Release Therapist on a regular basis to prevent any "build up". So it isn't gone forever, and when it comes back, it is always on my left side . I am also now watching how I sit and what kind of chair I sit in. In fact, I just dropped off some materials to a sewing lady this afternoon to make me a lumbar pillow for my favorite chair. That also helps keep one side from collapsing more than the other. Do you favor one side over the other while you are sitting, standing or even sleeping? Do you do some gentle yoga twists and stretches every morning to make sure all of your body is in alignment and your fascia is supporting and protecting your organs without causing discomfort? I didn't know how much answering those inquiries would lead me to a restorative program that releases "cranky" fascia. Wishing you a pain free, hour, day and future.

@houbrem have you thought of your gallbladder? If its gall stones you will have pain under right rib and it radiates to back on right side. Talk to your Dr about this?

Hello, I don’t know if this will help anyone but I pulled a rib under right breast... pain was so bad I cldnt stand up for about 30 minutes.. now it’s sore to touch and sometimes sharp pain but a constant pain.. then it wrapped around to my shoulder blade up to my neck.. It hurt to breathe, cough, getting up out of chair, cldnt stand to turn my head to the left.. I went to ER he felt of my ribs around shoulder blade.. and one was out of place.. he put it back in place (hurt very bad).. and had X-rays.. not only was it out of place but I tore intercostal muscle..
I’m still hurting but it’s not as bad.. he prescribed muscle relaxers and something for inflammation, said it will take time...

I’ve had gallbladder taken out 12 years ago..
But I was told you can still have stones from your liver that can move and stop up bile ducts.. and cause pain... Hope this helps someone 🙏
