Hi Teresa,
I am only about 1/3 of the way toward getting to the maximum dosage that my doctor wants me to achieve. It is such a gradual process, but yes, I have already noticed quite a bit of improvement. My Mayo doctor told me that I am very early in my Parkinson’s and that I should have 10-20 years where the symptoms should be managed. As you can guess, I was THRILLED to hear that!!!!!!!!!
The pain is significantly better and I don’t experience it much except in the later part of the evening into going to bed and then it is not as bad as it was. I think the pain comes at night because my excercise and activity during the day has worn my muscles and they are tired. They feel way more ridged then. Certainly won’t stop being active and exercising though. Everyone I have talked to has emphasized this.
The Sinemet has really helped with the symptoms, besides the pain, that I have had. My writing is a lot better and though I still think BIG when I do, it is SO much easier. My balance is quite good. I swing my arms when I do so now without thinking about it and my steps are long. My strength is also a lot better. I can open bottles, etc with my right hand and mix thick things like cookie batter. I can get into heavy coats by myself. These are the things I have had trouble with.
So, for the most part things have improved quite a bit. Thx for your support!
Susan
ps I LOVE my Mayo neurologist!!!!!!!

I’ve been on Sinemet since the 14th of August. My doctor is having me slowly increase the dosage until I am up to 2 pills three times a day which will be in three weeks. My symptoms have disappeared and my pain is significantly better except at night. Then it is not as bad as it was, but it is still not good. Long story short, I am having trouble with nausea, usually a short time after I have eaten. I am religiously taking my pills then waiting 1 1/2 to 2 hours before eating. Then I eat and wait 4 to 5 hours before eating again. I’m not throwing up, but I just feel nauseous a lot of the time. Is this a symptom that gets better over time? Has anyone had or still experiencing the same problem? I also feel like I’m getting the flu from time to time. It never lasts, but when it happens it is again usually at night. I appreciate any input.

My husband has been on Sinemet for 2.5 years. He takes (currently) 2.5 tabs 5-6 times per day. About 1 year ago he started experiencing daily nausea in the morning after his first morning meds. He used to take his meds as soon as he woke and started his day - before eating. As the daily nausea developed, we assumed the meds on an empty stomach (taken with water or orange juice) were likely causing his stomach upset, so he started adding some food first - a small amount of yogurt or cottage cheese, a glass of milk, and he has discontinued orange juice and coffee altogether. He starts the day with dairy products because we thought it might coat his stomach and help reduce acid production. This has had no effect. Poor guy gets nauseous no matter what, and has to take a nap before he feels well enough to get up and get going. Suggestions?

Thx so much for your support! I hope you are doing well
I appreciate your support Teresa a lot!
@susan62 You've got it! I always root for my PD friends. We have an uphill battle in more ways that one🎈 Onward and upward.
@susan62
Thanks, Susan. Yes, I keep moving as much as possible.

Hello @susan62
Maybe you are waiting too long before eating. I have heard that 30 minutes is enough time. Where did you hear about the 1 1/2 to 2 hours?
I have also heard that taking Sinemet with a sugary drink (orange juice or coke) will put it into your system quicker than water.
Hi @dianalee,
As you have been a caregiver for someone with PD for quite some time, have you ever come up with the nausea issue related to Sinemet?
If so, how has it been handled for your PD patient?
