Paralyzed Diaphragm
My name is John and I was diagnosed this past January with a paralyzed right diaphragm. Phrenic nerve damage has been ruled out because of the amount of time between my heart valve surgery and when this started. I still cannot figure how this happened, I have a couple of ideas but nothing conclusive. I have seen two pulmonary doctors and both say there is a surgical procedure that can be done but no guarantee that it will work. I would like to know if anyone out there has been diagnosed with a paralyzed diaphragm and if they had it fixed.

@giller198 I saw you other post first in the Phrenic Nerve Damage thread and I had some suggestions that I posted there based on my experience with physical therapy for breathing problems.
Thank you, I will check it out. I'm still working some exercises, paced breathing,
Hope everyone has a nice Thanksgiving.
How thoughtful you are. Happy Thanksgiving to you!
Think about reading the book Happiness by Dr Amit Sood.
This book helped give me improve my quality of life through relaxation and paced breathing. It tokk practice but has been well with the time!
Best
I ordered the book through Amazon, couldn't get for my Kindle. Thank you. Still doing my breathing exercises. I found out that if I do to much of the breathing exercises and try to swim the same day, I struggle in the water more. Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving, Christmas just around the corner. Ho, Ho, Ho
Got the book yesterday, Wednesday, started on chapter 1 today
Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a better New Year, take care
I was diagnosed in 2014 with left hand side paralyzed diaphragm, i have had lots of tests including the Phrenic nerve test and this was ruled out as the cause, apart from breathlessness on exertion and walking a distance i have no other symptoms. i am looking for any advice on whether my weight is a part of the problem as i am very overweight, has anyone lost weight and found there breathing has become better and is there any other advice for that can help with better breathing
@cazzy1958 - Welcome to Mayo Connect, I'm glad that you have found us. I have Lung Cancer and when I was overweight I found that my breathing was much more labored. Please ask your doctor about this. Being overweight can cause a lot of problems, which I'm sure that you know. Have you had lung cancer? Do you have a cough? What brought you to the doctor for this?
Thank you for the speedy reply, i am sorry to hear you have lung cancer, i have had various x-rays and scans and there was no sign of cancer, this condition started when i was in work i bent down to pick a box up and found i was very breathless i went to see my doctor who ordered lots of tests but they came back fine, the hospital has no explanation and say it may right itself or may not, i was diagnosed with very mild COPD which doesn't bother me at all.
