Bursitis and hip pain

What is the difference between bursitis and hip pain? I saw a doctor and she said I have bursitis but now I also have hip pain.

My bursitis has a tendency to return time and again. I was just told yesterday by a PT person it shouldn't be doing that but when I ice it at night it helps tremendously.

After my ball replacement surgery I developed bursitis and while I had injections by my arthritis doc and my surgeon they are now both retired and I decided I had had enough cortisone put in my system anyway. So I sleep on ice at night when it only seems to bother me. BUT it also does bother me when I walk on cement like Costco or a local Kroger store called Fred Meyer. I know because I worked there, Safeway, replaces their flooring by rolling a new sheet over the old and it forms a sort of padding. It does not hurt to walk on their floors. Ever.

Does anyone know if some clinic is planning a clinical trial of stem cell therapy for arthritis hip pain?

Hello, Just had BMAC procedure on right hip @ Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, was told this procedure is not usually successful for hips, and was required to pay out of pocket, BUT I am an optimist, so I want it to work for ME. Will post when I know more of the outcome, now is too soon to tell, Hip joint was Bone on Bone, yuk, so much pain.

Welcome @bcrisp37.
Researchers at Mayo Clinic study regenerative medicine techniques for restoring tissue and organ function. You can find the list of active clinical trials here:

The following link has detailed information about musculoskeletal regeneration research at Mayo Clinic:

@bcrisp37, may I ask what brings you to Mayo Clinic Connect?

Thank you for the links...I am here because I had some rather severe hip pain and x-rays revealed light to moderate arthritis in both hips. At the same time I saw a newspaper ad for stem cell therapy to treat joint pain. I have been trying to research this approach but have found only massive contradicting reports. Seems numerous clinics are out to charge outrageous prices for a simple injection/infusion. Looks like nothing definitive has been done in this area. Clinical trials appears to be the best option for now. My pain has vanished since probably it was due to bursitis but I know it can recur so I am still investigating....

My sister suffers from a lot of joint pain due to arthritis. She sometimes uses a cream called biofreeze. It used to be only prescription, but now can buy over the counter

Purchase generic Voltaren through a prescription company my husband used before he passed away. Extremely inexpensive for 100 g.

Hi:
I had both. I would asked for an MRI. My hip pain was from a labral tear. Bursitis is inflammation both can be fixed. When my Surgeon repaired my hip he also removed the bursitis.

Have had MRI and xray with in the last week both OK. More than one bursa in hip doc says if one removed more may become inflamed so I had shot given several times and it worked. Hard to find bursa except by xray or MRI or feel. He is now retired. Had back shot for arthritis last month and another one 26th. Seems to work so far, can have more.
