@funcountess I might try the gum, but have history of tmj so they dont recommend also another molar out Thursday 🙁 Thing is, we live in a side-split house and kitchen and basement under my bedroom. I have read on intgernet so many fridges are so loud these days, if I had my way this one, which is not that old, would go and i would buy a new one... but no guarantee re noise and husband says no! Gosh i might have to go back to one that doesnt self defrost at all hours ! yes am in Canada and have ent phone call next week but he is hands off tinnitus.

I’m not sure what a side split house is, is that a duplex, or tri level???
As for doctors, you need a tinnitus specialist, really not sure how your health care in Canada works. Can your doctor refer you to one. .?
Fridges can be noisy. I have a kitchen aid brand, and it’s pretty quiet. I think it depends on the amount of insulation they have.
Take care

Hi @funcountess So, looking at front of house left side is one-storey living room, small dining room kitchen;
the right side of house is two storey... one level above ground, one level in ground/basement..... so go up 10 stairs to bedrooms and bathroom or take other another staircase 8 stairs, to go downstairs, under those bedrooms and bathroom ... there is furnace room for central heating; laundry room and a small family room and small bathroom. They call them split levels, side splits etc., and very popular in the 1960s.
Anyway, so Mr.Fridge is almost under my bedroom, so closing bedroom door doesnt stop vibrations when defrosting, and these houses were cheaply built not much insulation.... but nice neighbourhood and nice neighbours.. if i didnt have ear issues would be no problem 🙂 I cant hear half of what husband says but can hear dog eating its kibble in the morning downstairs!
i dont think they have tinnitus specialists as such but will check tomorrow, thanks for the tip. J.

...oh vertigo is awful.... I tell my husband the pressure/pain and tinnitus is driving me nuts.... even as I am typing I have a 'droning' noise in my ear/s etc.... I have researched on Web as you have too am sure; asked when I had hearing test and no joy!!
Last month my youngest daughter age 52 told me, Mum i have it too (Tinnitis) but she said - I don't want to talk about it.
They have hearing aids that apparently have another noise maker in them to drown out the tinnitus but to me its just another noise to listen to...I sleep in own room so have ipad on you tube with soft piano music playing most nights.... i am not a plink plonk piano player fan but found one that is more mellow. Some listen to waves or rain but i cannot.
Thing is, my bedroom is over the furnace/heating room and it wakes me up too when running; also our darn loud fridge... so its not odd to see me creeping around at 3am listening to the fridge and furnace to find out it its them or my ears!! I joke about it but its not funny.
There are clinics in Ontario that try to train you to take your mind off the noise but there is no magic cure. For me, the pain and pressure would be nice to get rid of. They are saying that with so many people using ear buds and headphones and holding cell phones to their ears that there will likely be more ear problems such as this in future.....but people still use them! I still hold out hope they will be able to find to help us all.... J

@lacy2 Lacy, I've had tinnitus for many years. At first, I really obsessed about it, went to special hearing clinics, had one of those noise-maker hearing aids to "cover the sound", (very expensive, didn't work), attended tinnitus therapy centres, (very expensive, didn't work), attended Psychologist therapy (very expensive, didn't work), attended ENT specialist appointment and only got an information sheet describing what I already knew. In other words, I hate to say it, but there's nothing we can do, other than accept it and figure out what works best for us. You're on the right track, listening to your piano music, etc. I always have my radio talk shows or music on during the day. Mine is very severe now, but it's part of what I got in this life. It is what it is. I've got a lot of serious issues to worry about now. Warmest wishes, Laurie

Hi,
Gotcha, so you have a split level, I just never heard the term side split.
Cold country Canada 🇨🇦 and not much insulation in the home, I’m freezing already.
As for Mr. Fridge noise, what about ear plugs when you sleep, or cotton in your ears. Are you a lite sleeper?
Anyway try the gum for ear pressure, it might work??? America has specialists for everything. You name it, we got it.
Hope you find relief.

Has anyone out there found a remedy or at least something that lessons the feeling of pressure and tinnitus accompanied with Meniers Disease? My symptoms are maddening. Thank you

Hi...not sure why i felt like describing my house.... I think I am the one whose brain is going split level... having a lot of stress lately with various health issues. Did try sponge ear plugs but when wake up thru night etc. like to put in ear buds and listen to tapes from you tube to get back to sleep... oddly enough listening to them low volume can still hear fridge or furnace in background, plus tinnitus.... apparently it is the brain hearing the tinnitus not the ears.... but may try the gum once my gum heals from having tooth out Thursday. had one out dec.27 and hole has healed but tiny fragments of bone coming up through gums, had 3 taken out, tiny but make mouth sore... honestly, its one thing after another - big or small - never ending.. yes USA similar size to Canada but not sure , maybe 5 times population.... i would love to be in Florida or somewhere warm right now.. but travel days are over. Thanksagain, J.

@december1011 How are you doing today? May I ask if you tried the headphones?

You will notice that I moved you question to a previous discussion on this topic. I did this so you could connect with members in a central location and so that other members with a similar question could more easily find you. I see that you were part of this discussion in the past. Did you have a chance to read the past comments?

I'm wondering if you have ever considered alternative therapies like, acupuncture, chiropractic, etc.?

Hi @lacy2
California has more people than all of Canada.
How about being a good neighbor and taking about 30 million Californians off our hands. That would nearly double your population and give Californians a little breathing room.
Guess I don’t love my neighbor like I’m supposed too.

@jakedduck1 While Canada's taking your excess Californians, maybe they could stop in Chicago and pick up, say, 30,000. It would really help with traffic, etc. Thanks.
