Has anyone with Meniere's Disease been prescribed the compound drug Betahistine?

@morninglory

Vertigo, nausea, unable to see correctly and severe ringing in the ears. When an episode occurs I must lay down as it's too difficult to walk. The reason I asked about the Betahistine is I had heard on NPR an interview with a Dr. David Kaylie MD FAC an associate Professor of surgery head and neck and Communication Sciences at Duke University speak of Betahistine as a med that they had had success with for patients with Meniere's. Also that it has been used for Meniere's in Europe for decades. My ENT dr. was not familiar with it nor was my family dr.. Am hoping someone that has taken it can pass on an opinion and also how to find a doctor that is aware of this medication.

My husband is on betahistine and Lasix for his meniers didn't find that it did to much but again maybe it did. With the side effects of the different medications one never knew what was real or side affect. He wasn't able to function "normally" for awhile he went days in bed in fetal position not being able to keep anything down as he was so dizzy. At times when I took him to emerg as he got dehydrated he felt a bit better with iv fluids but it seemed like it just had to wait for it to pass....... so frusterating as mentally u just feel helpless not being able to do normal daily activities (even getting out of bed and get dressed ) just started a return to work after not being able to work for 2 yrs. Hang in there you got this!!

@funcountess @joyces You two bring back so many memories. Remember how shocked I was when I married and received notices from all my creditors that all MY accounts were to be closed and transferred into his name. He had just finished military service but I'd been more than gainfully employed for a while. It seems that married women could not have accounts in their name. Joyces, congrats to your daughter - well done. Hope that in gaining equality we've not misplaced a work ethic......

Trishanna, you weren't as shocked as I was when my ex and I divorced and I learned I had no credit, even though I had always paid all the bills. He kept the house, furnishings (everything!), and all the bank accounts. (The alternative was to drag the kids into it and fight it out...he said he'd ask for custody even though he didn't want the kids, just to get the house.) The kids and I started over from scratch. Fortunately, I had a far better job that paid very well, so it all worked out although I'll never forget my daughter saying, "we don't have a TV!" I reminded her that we also didn't have a table or chairs or a lamp or much of anything else. Still, I paid high interest when I scraped together enough to buy a house, all because I had no credit. I maintain that I had a totally liberated divorce!

May I asked why he was able to return back to work? Did his vertigo dissipate ? I haven’t been able to work or drive and I’m wondering how long I’ll be disabled. Thank you

He was able to go back as he was feeling a bit better he still has the ringing in the ears and has help with the hearing aid to hear also he still has the fullness in his head at times but he hasn't been in bed in fetal position for awhile and hasn't been dizzy so he is on a return to work slow process but so far so good. 😉

Thank you. When you say “go to the group...”, where do I find that list? On the Mayo Clinic website ?

This is Mayo Clinic Connect's website https://connect.mayoclinic.org/

You will see a tab that says Groups; Click on Groups.

Scroll down and click the group you want to post in. I assume you want to post in the ENT group. I have this group link below.

Below are more detailed answers on how to start a new discussion.
1.Click on the group that you would like to start a new discussion in (i.e. Chronic Pain, Cancer, etc.)

2.From the Group’s homepage, click on the grey box that reads START A DISCUSSION. It is located just under the blue DISCUSSIONS tab.

3.Type a brief title, but be descriptive so that other members know exactly what you will be discussing.

4.Type your message. This is where you can type in more detail about what you are experiencing or have questions about.

5.In the bottom right corner from where you just typed your message, click the grey CREATE DISCUSSION box.

I hope that I am answering your question(s). Technical instructions are not my strong point but @colleenyoung and @johnbishop may be able to help us problem solve the issue.

Please let me know if you need additional assistance and/or if you need clarification on anything.
