Adults On The Autism Spectrum

Maybe you were really shy as a child. Perhaps you took home a huge stack of books from the school library, read them, and returned them the next day. Or did your best friend find you crying in your closet, unable to answer the question "Why?" At any rate, your life could be traced to the Self-Help section of the local bookstore. Unfortunately, most of the books were not much help. ADHD seemed to fit, at times. Your shrink said you might be Bi-Polar, although she wasn't really certain. All you knew was that you rarely fit in, anywhere. One day at work, it hit you square in the face: I don't speak these people's language! Really, it was like you were all playing this game, and everyone knew the rules but you. You couldn't tell a joke, and you never "got" any joke your co-worker tried to tell you. People started getting annoyed with you, because you had a memory like a steel trap. They didn't appreciate it when you called them on the carpet. Who knew? This was my life, and worse. I finally aced several tests that pointed me to the answer to my questions. The Autism Spectrum. Guess what? Little kids with Autism grow up to be Adults with Autism. Diagnosed late in life? This is the place for you!

@mamacita, My 6th grade son is a big Pokemon fan. You should see his room right now ... covered in stacks of Pokemon cards he's organizing, since someone just sold him a bunch of cards for very little money. Might be a good opportunity to tell him a bit about autism.

@Gingergingerw, well, I finally got a shower about an hour ago. Little Princess went with her Mommy to eat Sushi with her other bestie. I lost my phone, (found it) loaded the dishwasher, made my bed,(finally) and thought I would post a quick note before she wakes up.

Got my game gear on. Not sure when the game is. Probably in another hour. Husband says he's getting chicken and all the fixings for us. My other daughter is here as well, so we should have a pretty full house. I know nothing about football. But my Dad loved it. So we watch it. RollTide!

I am as Aspie as it gets. I cannot comprehend all the social rules surrounding this national fascination with a leather ball being carried from one end of the field to the other. And bodies piled on top of one another,

No matter. We gather together and cheer them on. It's just good to be together.

Hope everyone has a good day today.
Love and light to you all.

Mamacita

@parus Oh, Mr. Ed!! "Wilbur!"
@sirgalahad @auntieoakley Yes to F Troop. We weren't allowed to watch very much TV, and since we only got two channels it wasn't a big choice.

I love Mr. Ed, and Wilbur. Does anyone else remember Francis the talking mule? Do we all connect to animals easier than to humans?

REPLY

Donald Oconnor was Francis the mule side kick
