Anyone have experience with the SoClean Machine?
Hello Everyone,
Many of us who use a CPAP, BiPAP, or other breathing devices have maybe been curious about a SoClean machine that has been advertised on TV quite a bit. I'm not sure but I would imagine that it could also be used for a Trilogy machine or any device which has the same size hoses if their equipped with a water reservoir. We purchased one out of pocket because our insurance did not cover it. It has a certain smell to the hoses after cleaning that many people say is hard to get used to. In the beginning we would disconnect the SoClean and let our BiPAP run for an hour or so to help remove any smell.
Some people say it has a clean smell to it while others say it takes some getting used to but eventually they do get used to it. Knowing that their equipment is free of bacteria gives a sense of comfort.
It works by a small hose coming off the adapter and being placed into the water reservoir oxygenating the water. No drops or chemicals in the water.
The last 2 times Lilbit has been hospitalized we have used our own BiPAP machine in the hospital because Lilbit prefers her own mask. We also brought the SoClean machine to the hospital and the Drs, nurses, and respiratory therapist were all curious how it worked. One therapist asked if we thought it actually cleaned everything. I replied, I don't know we just have to rely on the FDA information. Has anyone else been interested in the SoClean machine?

can someone explain exactly what the so clean machine does? and how it does it? correct me if iam wrong but it seems to me that it is a OZONE generator??? and it uses the ozone to kill bacteria??? is it the ozone smell that everyone talks about ?

To be quite honest I've always thought I had a good sense of smell and I really don't notice a bad odor from my SoClean 2 machine. I've had friends who used an ozone generator for sanitizing their hot tubs and I definitely noticed the smell near their hot tub after it was cleaned.

2 ReactionsGlad to help. The machine runs the ozone generator part for 2 minutes and then shuts off but stays locked for 2 hours to complete the sanitizing process. Since your mask with the hose attached to your CPAP machine is placed in the SoClean machine it sanitizes the hose and humidifier tank in the CPAP machine. It has a light that it red when it's generating and noisy buzzing sound. Then it goes yellow for 2 hours and when it's done the light turns green.

3 ReactionsI have had a CPAP machine for many years and never became sick. I do clean the mask every night using CPAP wipes and make sure the water is changed every night. I rarely clean the hose. Ido have a heated hose so moisture does not collect in it.

2 ReactionsHELP! Has anyone gotten a bad rash on their face where the mask touches skin? Ever since I started using my so clean machine I have had burning rash on my face. I bought it from tv and paid several hundred dollars for it because I liked the concept. When I called tech support they told me to go to my dr and ask if I am allergic to ozone O3. I am supposed to spend more monet to get tested? I am frustrated as I have been using cpap for 20 years and NEVER has this happened except when using soclean. Can you help me?

3 ReactionsHello @gma6, welcome to Connect. I've been using a SoClean machine for a little over 6 months without any issues. I would definitely talk with your doctor. Do you wipe your mask with CPAP wipes in the morning before putting them into the SoClean machine? It might help. It would just remove any skin oils from the mask. The other thing I would try is to open the SoClean machine after the cleaning cycle has finished and leave it open or partially opened until you go to bed. I think that would get rid of any ozone that has already done it's sanitizing job anyway. I would discuss it with your doctor anyway.
