Alternatives for pain management

Posted by grandmaR @grandmar, Mar 31, 2018

Hello!
I was wondering if anyone tried cryo therapy or medical marijuana for pain management. If you did, how did they/it work?
Thanks

And don't you worry about the ads that will come to fight legalization. They will scoop up every youth who has gotten a ticket and been in accident. To me this is proof that you should not use until you are 21.

Tennesee,,,,You are so right. Texas does not have it. I really was shocked when I moved here. In Oregon a shop on every corner and in every small center. I always used the Oil. It is perfect for my RA. They were talking about the drug Narcotic issues on TV today and they always use young people in the ads. They did this and they did that. For one, Talk about the Seniors. We need it. And we don't like the Opiates anymore than you do Texas. But what have you done to us? WE have to use Opiates if we can get them. Each clinic in Oregon has access to a doctor clear you for Medical. If you do not clear you get only Recreational. With Medical you could go in the clinic everyday and get more. It is NOT habit forming. Erase that from your mind NOW. If anyone uses that as an excuse, tell them the truth, it is NOT habit forming. Even when I used it for RA. I did not go through withdrawal when I got to Texas. But, my pain has increased now after being here for a year. I have more episodes. I think it is the heat. Somehow, I would like every Texan to join together to get Marijuana legal in Texas. Our Seniors are not living a full and active life because we are being kept from the HERB planted in the ground that we have a right to. Doctors may think they are going to loose income if they make it legal.

You are so right. My pain has gotten much worse. And don't forget the pharmaceutical companies!! I'm being forced to get a spinal injection because of my pain level and or go to something stronger! Like Opana....ate you kidding me! And I have such a fear of needles. Then...in my spine of all places. Terrified in Tennessee.

I'm SO glad for you and the fact that you are able to "work thru the pain"!!! Unfortunately, my hobbies, including gardening, my 30 + house plants, chores like sweeping, mopping, that side to side motion, bending, stooping, lifting any size bag of trash, even picking up something causes my pain. Which feels like a concrete block sewn in to the middle of my back. But enough whining!!! I'm thrilled for you and that you have someone close who understands!!! Cudos for you. Your words, you, set an example that it can be done!! Thank you..for welcome g me into your group. I realizeI am not alone.

I find when I can be outside doing anything it reduces my anxiety unless I let myself get crabby because I can do so little (key words there our "let myself") it may be the pain, which is the easiest to work thru or the inability to breathe a little tougher to ignore lol on a good day I will be out as long as I can stand. I am so lucky !!!!! We live about 10 miles outside a town of only 10,000 but it still has 5 recreational lakes WITHIN the city limits! Our home is on a smaller lake which is mostly used by the people (10) living on it. It is close to heaven. Years ago I started expanding the flower gardens, still need one more for the youngest grandchild and as hard as it can be to maintain they bring me joy. My husband doesn't really care about the flower gardens but knowing how much they mean to me he has really helped out A LOT. He also expanded the veggies and grew a 200lb pumpkin last year. He has built a tree house that I still have not seen since he finished the enterior but I have seen pic and it rivals the ones you see on TV only a bit smaller. So far haven't been able to make the climb but I will soon. He is so proud of it he picked all the furniture and décor with only a tiny bit of help from me. except for plumbing it could be a guest room in the sky !!! LOL and he is trying to solve the plumbing (mostly for the female guests ) Speaking of being outside I need to run into town to pick up a few plants and get them in before it rains. Hope everyone as a great day !!!

We just moved to an new home on Hawkeye Ridge Circle in southern California. Guess what we see everyday here? Lots of hawks, huge crows, and many small birds who chatter up a storm. There are also many hummingbirds. I love watching them flitter about the flowers. They are so pretty and swift. Our kitties love watching them also, but thankfully they're too old to actually catch them. I'll be learning more about the different birds here as we settle in to the new home. I do find that watching the birds and being outside in the natural, peaceful environment reduces my anxiety and increases my joy. I am planning where to plant my current gardenia (my favorite flower), huge split leaf philodandrum, and beautiful pink double camellia here. They are in planters currently, so I want to put them in the ground here. I just hope they survive until I can get it done.

@gailb ah yes, a warmer climate. Yesterday evening I saw an immature Sharp-Shinned Hawk try to nab a squirrel. Young and inexperienced (also too small even if mature) it failed. I was in favor of the hawk as the furry-tailed rodents are taking over the neighborhood!!! I do NOT think these rodents are cute!!!! My 2 cents worth.
Smell the Gardenias for me and I will enjoy the evening aroma of the Four-O'Clocks here in IN.

@oregongirl, You actually bring up an interesting point about use of medical marijuana and age. Here is an interesting link from Mayo Clinic with a little bit more information, https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/consumer-health/in-depth/medical-marijuana/art-20137855. Even Mayo Clinic states that more research is needed. However, it does mention that marijuana can become an addiction for a small percentage of people and that risk is higher for individuals under the age of 25. It also depends on whether an individual has an addictive personality.
