How long between consultation & surgery for a myectomy at Mayo?
Can anyone tell me about how long to expect between meeting with cardiologist and when surgery is done? Thank you!

Hi Barb,
To clarify for other members, are you getting a myectomy at Mayo Clinic?
Yes, a Septal myectomy
Let me tag a few members who have had a septal myectomy at Mayo Clinic. @cynaburst @mbcube @ronpetrovich @1949 @lisa7 @janicepike @ataylor8668 and others may be able to share their experiences about the wait time between a consultation with an HCM surgeon at Mayo Clinic and the surgery itself.
Keep in mind, Barb, that many factors contribute to scheduling surgery and the time between consultation and surgery won't be the same for everyone. Have you called Mayo Clinic to inquire about a surgery date?
I haven't. My appointment for consult is the 16th and I wondered if it would be 2 trips. We are trying to igure out how to budget for this trip. I will call the office tomorrow. Thank you for the suggestion!
If you think that you are a likely candidate for surgery, you can have your records sent ahead, and if the doctors agree, they will schedule you for both a consultation and surgery on the same trip. Otherwise, they would do the consultation, and if you are a candidate, they will schedule you for the first available date that suits both you and the doctor's schedules. I myself only went once, knowing that surgery was likely. They can always cancel surgery if not needed, but they can't usually get you on the schedule right away. It takes anywhere between a couple of weeks to a couple of months. I myself waited 4 months or so from the time I called due to my own family planning needs as well as wanting two specific doctors to care for me. Does that help? Can we answer anything more specific?
I have written a blog about my Mayo experience with myectomy: http://www.Cynthiassummeradventure.blogspot.com and another page of resources on my other blog: http://www.hcmbeat.com/resources/resources-for-patients-about-myectomy
I hope those will help you get started.
I did mine in one day. Had all the tests lined up, then went to the Dr. Schaffs office. Scheduled surgery that day. I think it was a month out from the day I saw him.
