Stop smoking panic attacks.

Posted by littleonefmohio @littleonefmohio, Mar 28, 2018

I am hoping someone can help me with this. I have been trying to stop smoking again. I thought I was doing good, like I always do. I was wearing the smoking patch and have been on them for over 2 weeks. Yesterday I had a panic attack. This seems to happen every time I try and quit smoking which takes me right back to smoking. I thought for sure I would make it this time. Does anyone have any suggestion as to what to use to help me with these panic attacks while trying to quit? I was on Wellbutrin before and it help me to quit but a month hit of being on it and I started getting very mean and bad thoughts so had to get off of it. Any and all suggestions appreciated.

@travelgirl I understand Jackie, I have been smoking for over 40 years. I have been using jelly beans to help me also. Yes I have tried too many times to remember to quit. I believe I will get it done this time. I have too if I want to breathe. Walking is out of the question till it gets warms because the cold here in Ohio takes my breath away with COPD. I Will start walking when it warms up. Love to walk. Thank you for your help. God Bless.

I also smoked for over 40 years. Very emotional trying to quit. I used every excuse to go back. It’s easy to compromise when we crave a cigarette. About 25 years ago I realized if I wanted to live I had to quit. I now have copd but thank God I quit as I can still breathe. You have to make a decision. Either continue smoking or quit. Hardest thing I ever did but if you want to. You can. I pray you make the right decision for you. God bless you on your journey.

I'm not sure if I mentioned this before but I came up with a mantra-"If you smoke you die" and I said this to myself every time I craved a cigarette. I still do every now and then.

My biggest worry is my 47year old son who has smoked since he was 12. When he started, there was easy access to cig machines. He quit a couple times, once thru hypnosis, but some event or person would trigger him to smoke again. Never hear anyone ever speak up about why the government that says it wants people to stop smoking, does nothing but tax cigs more (which benefits gov!). Why doesnt gov create regulations to stop the addictive additives & pesticides in the cigs?! NY decided soda is bad for u, so they stopped big gulps. They regulate all sorts of substances not even in category of how dangerous as cigs. I will never understand why no one ever thought to try and get gov to do something. I worked for a city gov, and saw the numerous and ridiculous regs they have on environment and agriculture. Gov could stop this if it wanted to!

Being mad & upset with yourself will only make it worse & why would you? be kind to yourself like you would if someone you love were trying to quit an addiction, would you help them?....be kind & supportive?...would you do something special for them? like take them to a movie ,a massage,or flowers? Tell them how wonderful it is that they are trying to do something good for their health?...All those things you should be doing for yourself, love yourself like you do others is most important...look in the mirror & Smile at that person who is trying so hard................Hugs......Remember it's hard but you are doing it girl!!!!...............I added media by mistake

Hi, I know it is not easy to quite smoking but it is possible. I quite after 10 years of smoking, I smoked 20-30 cigarettes a day and noticed that I was not fit anymore, bad cough in the morning and the smell. I knew I had to do something, so I told myself I wanted to quite smoking "not forever", but just for a certain time, for me it was 10 years. Consequently, if I don't like the 10 years without a cigarette then it was ok for me to start smoking again. This idea which I had always in my head helped me a lot. It encouraged myself that every day that passed without a cigarette, I was closer to that day that I can smoke again. In addition, I stopped going to bars, no alcohol, coffee or anything what I used to do with a cigarette. Also, I started walking/running in the morning at least for 30 minutes. I think after going through that for 90 days which was not easy, I "never ever" would have put a cigarette in my mouth. Actually, I even became a marathon runner, trekker in the Himalayas and did do many things which I couldn't have done as a smoker. After quitting smoking I realized how beautiful life is, how much stronger I am, can do and appreciate so many things in life. I wish you all the best, just be strong...you can do it!!!
