Barrett’s esophagus

Posted by jvanstratten @jvanstratten, Mar 22, 2018

Looking for info and help with Barret’s esophagus. I can’t figure out just how serious this is. I have read way too much online! I don’t really know how strict my diet really has to be. It is really stressful-. Does anyone here have it? And exactly how serious is it?

I am not familiar with gasttopaneisis. Thank you for replying.

Is it similar to BE? I hope you are doing well though.

That's what I have been told too but I have silent reflux so I can't tell.

@maxsproudmom I guess I too have silent reflux since I never seem to have a reaction to anything. @dandl48 I think the doctor’s advice is great for people who do react. That really is an advantage.
I have been through so many other problems since this was diagnosed that the BE got put on a back burner and I forget many of the food restrictions. I eat dark chocolate every day! If I was told that was a restriction, then I totally and very conveniently forget. I stayed away from tomatoes for a long time but do eat them now. I’m really beginning to get worried about my endoscopy now since I’ve not been adhering to the restrictions very well.

@maxsproudmom My Mayo Dr. tells me let your body be your guide, if you eat an apple and it gives you reflux, don't eat apples. What works for me is to eat small meals and if you can eat your large meal at noon and your lunch sized meal at dinner. No food 3 hours prior to bed time and no chocolate, rats.

Before Gastropanesis I used to eat yogurt but now cannot tolerate.. so I eat soy yogurt, but fresh mozzarella works fine.. Tomatoes, I make sure the skin is cut in small segments so those large pieces like the leafy greens do not get stuck... Yes, small meals .. when I eat out I have to be very careful.. end up taking 1/2 or more home ..No Steak... rice with mixtures over work good.. the secret to Caprese Salads is the Olive oil and the Reduced Balsamic vinegar... I saute the balsamic down to 1/2 volume .. it becomes sweet... try this chart ..but your body will tell you what works... http://www.alkalife.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/Acid-Alkaline-Food-Chart-ph-Balance-Alkalife.pdf

Yum! Ice cream has always been my weakness.

And the frozen dessert is actually dairy free.

I will have to check it out although I am not supposed to have chocolate. I would imagine there are different flavors.

@ken82 I will have to look for that since it's dairy-free. Of course I am sure it's not calorie free and I am trying to watch that too.

Yes, several flavors.. I'm always trying to gain or at least maintain weight...I lost 50 at the time the Nissen went wrong...Mayo figured out what had been done to me by others .. since then I have been gaining back almost 30#..

Anyone with gerd or BE needs to read The acid watcher diet book! Great info and it tells you what is bad. Arch enemy number 1 is soda!
