Barrett’s esophagus

Looking for info and help with Barret’s esophagus. I can’t figure out just how serious this is. I have read way too much online! I don’t really know how strict my diet really has to be. It is really stressful-. Does anyone here have it? And exactly how serious is it?

My husband is 72 yrs young and was diagnosed with Barrett’s in his 40’s. At that time he has his esophagus stretched probably 4 times over the first 4 years and has taken prescription strength omeprazole for ever since. He no longer has any sign of Barrett’s.
At the time he was diagnosed he couldn’t get through a meal without choking or feeling as though food was stuck in his throat.
He was told at that time by his Dr. that all people who were diagnosed with esophagus cancer started with Barretts syndrome, but not all those with Barretts ended up with esophagus cancer.
He was also told it was hereditary as his mom died of esophagus cancer and his siblings struggled with Barretts syndrome.

@khowe2000 Find another GI doctor asap. I had GERD, and hiatal hernia, and was on 40mg of omeprazole. the strong strength of the omeprazole caused severe constipation so I had to get off of it. My acid reflux was horrible and it got to the point that I could hardly eat anything that didn't cause the acid reflux. Long story short, I had Hiatal hernia repair and esophageal valve repair surgery this past March. It is called the TIF procedure with hiatal hernia repair. I had two surgeons do the surgery. The worst part of the surgery is post surgery because of the liquid diet/soft food diet for 6-8 weeks but it was well worth it! I am back to my normal diet and I am off of all acid reflux meds and no longer have any acid reflux. Good luck to you!

Dearest Marjoriem,
I find it very interesting that your doctors could perform both the
Esophagus valve and Hiatal Hernia repair ( different docs) at the same time.
I’m a former MN resident and will consider returning ( Mayo) if both the TiF and Hiatal can be completed with 2 sep surgeries /same day. I now reside in TX and have been told it is not possible
To perform a hernia repair and esophagus. They advise against a TIF as not helpful??
It sounds like, Even though a few months, that this is helping your health issues? Please respond, if you could with the Medical clinic and or city where the surgery was performed. I will research further!
