Reclast Infusions: Side-effects & Recovery time
I just had a reclast infusion last week and have had serious side effects. I had the worst flue like aching for 5 days then my lefty arm became full of inflammation in the wrist, elbow and shoulder which caused extreme pain and I lost the ability to straighten my elbow. Ultrasound showed huge amounts of fluid throughout the arm. The right arm is now starting to have the same symptoms. The pain is excruciating. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Neither the ER doctor nor the Dr. who prescribed the procedure knew what to do to ease the symptoms. Both arms from fingertips to shoulder are swollen and neither elbow will straighten. Anyone else have adverse reactions to the reclast infusion? If yes, how long did it last?

I would love to know about the coating resulting from the Reclast infusion. It’s a shame that our doctors don’t know the answers and we are just hoping we get results.
Hi @thornwood . The "coating" my doctor referred to applies to Prolia. Reclast is a different category of medication: a bisphosphonate. It works on the bone remodeling process in a different way than Prolia.
Why do you think Sally Field stop doing the Reclast commercials?
I got yeast problems in my mouth when I was on an inhaler to prevent asthma and it caused yeast my mouth. My daughter had a bad case of asthma and now she thinks she has yeast in her throat because it hurt. There is something always wrong with her. For one thing she's over weight. She lost 45 lbs but has gained it all back plus. She's 40 years old, can hardly believe it and she's not married, but does have a friend which is a boy. There not boyfriends or girl friends.
She's going to get a resperator (SP) to wear when she goes to the barn. She has a horse that she rides. He doctor has kept her out of work since the virus started, because she gets sick so easy. They are starting to have some of them have the equipment in thier homes. She's suppose to go back to work in August.
@parrotqueen I don’t think that’s why she stopped doing BONIVA commercials. I remembered immediately the commercials and that it was Boniva so I just googled it. I think that once Boniva got to be well known they no longer felt the need to have a celebrity spokesperson.

I took the IV of reclast infusion and 2 years later I am still dealing with all the problems it caused me
@sljohns I am right to have a bad vibe about this drug. It's my only option right now if I want to discontinue Prolia. So sticking with Prolia for now. Sorry for the problems you are having.
Wise choice to stay on Prolia. I had no side effects on Prolia and had an improvement in my bone density with it. I was forced off of Prolia by my insurance company refusing to pay for it. My doctor recommended Reclast saying it was comparable to Prolia. I had the Reclast infusion 8 days ago and still having bad muscle and joint pain and fever.
@sljohns I did have the fourth Prolia injection on July 8. And, my bone density test showed improvement again. The endocrinologist also pointed out the improvement in the "neck" area of the hip. I probably should have listened to my doctor's advice and started on Prolia much earlier. So far, so good.
I am sorry you are having Reclast side effects. I hope you will be feeling better very soon.
I am in Canada. For me the most stressful part of the day was having to be inside the hospital. The doctor, the nurse, the technician, the secretary were all masked and wearing face shields. This is the new normal.
Get well soon.
@sljohns I also realized that I am lucky to live in Canada where as a senior both Prolia, Aclasta, (Reclast) and some of the other osteoporosis drugs are paid for by the government. I paid $2.43 for my Prolia injection!
