All about Prozac

I just came across this website and the information about Prozac. I thought some of you may be interested in this information, so I thought I should pass it on. The site is Very Well Health (www.verywell.com) and they have lots of great information for you to read.

Per doc, I am coming off Lexapro and trying Prozac for my anxiety attacks. Has anyone had success using this med for anxiety? I do not have depression issues but I do have GAD. Any input is appreciated!

Hi, @annedodrill44 - wanted to let you know I moved your post on fluoxetine hcl (Prozac) here to an existing discussion on this medication so that you can connect with others interested in the same topic. Hoping members like @parus @elwooodsdad @catcatanzaro60 @happyat76 will have some input, as may @gingerw.

I personally have taken this medication twice for a season when I was experiencing an especially stressful situation where I was significantly anxious and the symptoms were not manageable with trying to live my daily life. One time 20 mg did the trick, and another time (during a move across town) I ended up needing to have my dose upped to 40 mg.

I will say, however, that I note for me, fluoxetine hcl (Prozac) can at times cause minor problems with my memory (e.g., can't recall something that happened 2-3 months ago that I think I should recall, or telling the same story again by mistake), so that part is a tradeoff. This memory issue resolved before when I tapered off the medication.

How is the transition to fluoxetine hcl (Prozac) from the escitalopram (Lexapro) going?

I have been prescribed Escitalopram while titrating off of Clonazapam.
Has anyone else been prescribed the same?

@helenfrances I have used Escitalopram and Clonopin together. Antidepressants are often prescribed for anxiety. It has been found, like in me, that an antidepressant that is working well will control anxiety alone. I no longer take Clonopin.

@lisalucier Thank you for tagging me in this discussion. I have not had any experience with Prozac or Lexapro. I will be interested to hear what others have to share, as any and all medications can sometimes be in our future.

Thank you, johnhans.
You no longer take clonazapam but continue with Escitalopram. I am looking forward to getting off of Clon ... and then ... is the Escitalopram still taken for a while and then discontinued?
Why did my prescriber not detail the plan.

I can not answer to what and why your doctor is going to do for your future. I am no longer on Escitalopram as it was not working fully for me. I was switched back to Zoloft, generic is Sertraline, as this has always worked better for me. Everyone is different in how they respond to antidepressants so for you Escitalopram may be the best. The doctor will probably wait to see how you respond to the changes. Much of medicine is trying to see what works. Please let us know how it goes for you in the future.

My doc is moving me from Escitalipram to Prozac for my anxiety attacks. I may be trying all the meds out there until I find one that works for me. I’ll let everyone know how it goes. Am also doing transcendental meditation, and it does calm mind and body. Just wish a complete cure were possible!!

Since I started taking it in Nov again it has helped me so much My doc said it takes awhile to help all the way. But it will never be a med I ever get off again. I was on it since 1999 and went off last year to try Cymbalta for pain and depression. I lost my mind this past year. Doing better but can hardly go out of house still.

I’m in process of switching from Escitalipram to Prozac. Your post gives me hope that it will help me too! Thank you!
