Does CBD oil help you with your depression and/or anxiety?

Posted by lalyfa @lalyfa, Feb 24, 2018

I am curious to know if anyone has had success with CBD or Hemp oil helping with depression/anxiety? I’ve been reading a lot about it and am curious.
I've been reading about this and am very interested but would like thoughts/opinions from anyone who has actually tried it or knows someone who has. TIA

Thank you,
Laura

Your on a lot of different antidepressants. I just took myself off Ativan and Seraquel. I’m using CBD oil by Lazarus, and CBD oil hemp bomb gummy’s which work great. I bite the head off I. The morning, then est the rest before bed. I suffer from severe anxiety since coming off a Lyrica. I. Tired of prescription medications they take over your neurotransmitters and when coming off them they put you in a whirlwind

75 year old woman on Xanax for many years (about 10 off and on) increasing over last two years to 3-4mg/day.
Now titrated to 2.5mg/day. Zoloft at 100mg for 2 month and probably increasing per dr to 200 today.
Have a history of generalized anxiety.
Many life traumas in last two years- passing of 47 year old daughter , son divorce, surgery, euthanasia of my dog, etc.
Dr treating depression more aggressively than anxiety now so holding off on further reduction of Xanax for now but very shaky.
Thought perhaps CBD oil in addition to Xanax, Zoloft, Inderal and Seroquel at night for sleep might help now. I also have a lot of pain from arthritis with impending replacement of both shoulders.
Thanks for your willingness to help !

To @rascal 1. Thank you for giving the details I asked for. I have suffered from many of the illnesses and traumas that you have faced. The drugs that you are taking are so strong that CBD oil is unlikely to help dramatically. If you still want to take it, do so with the permission of your doctor. There is probably no harm in taking it, but don't expect significant improvement. But please don't try to withdraw from Xanax just now. It is unlikely to be successful because you have recently faced many traumas and stresses in your life. Your doctor is right in treating your depression more aggressively because if your depression comes under control, your anxiety will automatically be reduced. Depression and anxiety are two sides of the same coin. The long-term treatment of generalized anxiety is antidepressants, though sometimes it may be necessary to add benzodiazepines on a long-term basis. Your doctor is right in increasing the dosage of Zoloft to 200 mg. It is likely to help you. I just have one question: Do you tolerate Zoloft well? Many people are not able to do so. It would be a good thing if you are able to tolerate high doses of Zoloft. Hope my opinion helps. Regards.

My 31 yr old son who suffers from anxiety, perseverative thoughts and autism has been on CBD tincture for past 5 months. He was on 5 different psychiatric medications prior to starting on CBD to control irritability, anxiety, aggression toward himself and others, perseverative thoughts ..With his psychiatrists advice regarding reducing the medications slowly, I have first removed Guanficine, then Clonazapam (clonipin) and am now weaning him off of Invega 9an atypical antipsychotic). His staff and myself have seen a big improvement ie less behaviors, less anxiety, better mood, no aggression, . He is doing better than he ever did on the 5 prescribed medications (poly pharmacy can be problematic because of long term side effects) . Currently he takes about 20 to 1 CBD tincture every 4 to 6 hours and about 2 to 3 times/day. He is currently taking Myriams Hope but also had success on Sweet Jayne, Care by Design. You can google these. Best to find a reputable company and consistent product but understand that product will vary a little because CBD is made from plants I also went to a nurse practitioner who specializes in CBD for psychiatric issues, seniors with alzheimers , pain and cancer issues to learn more about dosing , Rule of thumb, start slow and go slow in taking CBD to address anxiety. long term goal for my son is to have him off most psychiatric drugs because there are no side effects to CBD that we know of and also he is doing better than he ever did. this is a much better option. Only problem is cost, Medicare and Medicaid will not cover it all. Sad situation because the CBD has so far been more effective and is much less costly than the poly pharmacy he was taking. Also recommend taking daily data on target behaviors or issues you are hoping CBD will address e.g. restlessness, irritability, sleep, change in behaviors related to anxiety or depression. Happy Thanksgiving
