Heart Rhythm Conditions – Welcome to the group

Welcome to the Heart Rhythm Conditions group on Mayo Clinic Connect.
Did you know that the average heart beats 100,000 times a day? Millions of people live with heart rhythm problems (heart arrhythmias) which occur when the electrical impulses that coordinate heartbeats don't work properly. Let's connect with each other; we can share stories and learn about coping with the challenges, and living well with abnormal heart rhythms. I invite you to follow the group. Simply click the +FOLLOW icon on the group landing page.

I'm Kanaaz (@kanaazpereira), and I'm the moderator of this group. When you post to this group, chances are you'll also be greeted by volunteer patient Mentors and fellow members. Learn more about Moderators and Mentors on Connect.

Let's chat. Why not start by introducing yourself?

That sounds dangerous. Best to look on the web for interactions between the both of them.

I had an ablation in August and have had no problems since. Am on Lorsatan once a day and Eliquis 2x daily. Previously had afib 2-3x/week. I'm wondering what's holding your doctor back from the ablation. So glad I had it as I worry less and am comfortable that my health is much better.

Was yours for PVCs or Afibs? mine was for PVCs and the electrophysist who performed it came into the exam room before seeing me with a disgusted look o his face when the PA he uses could not get me to stop wanting those PVCs. His words were, "Alright, I'll do the ablation. I know exactly where it is, but you'll need to stay overnight and you'll need to lie flat for 5 hours afterward."
I never saw him prior to the procedure, saw the anthologist and the rest of the staff, but not him.

Have not had many PVCs since, just occasionally, but they are no longer damaging my heart. AND even MAYO clinic admits PVCs are heart damaging.

I do. I take 100mg of Metoprolol every day. I take Diltiazem when I have an episode of afib. I take it every 4 hours until back in sinus rhythm

My medical chart says to never prescribe diltiazem and metoprolol together for me. It was during a time when I was having side effects from various meds to control my arrythmia. The metoprolol was still in my system . The diltiazem set off an irregular heart beat that freaked me out. Anyway in the end, I stayed on metoprolol and no more problems. I imagine each individual case may be different.

My 50 Mg dose of Losartin is split into 2 tabs, one for AM & one for PM due to the powerful effect of the entire 50 Mg at once. Taking that amount would send my BP to the bottom and forcing me to need to lie down before I fell down. I did take Metropolol for awhile, got that switch to Carvedilol until I could wean off . it kept the migraines at bay until I tried to wean off and then they would come back fiercely. Now I take 25 Mg 2X daily of Losartin.

Be careful! Can't you discuss it with your doctor and find a better combo of medications without the terrible side effects? I take candesartan with hydrocholrothyazide for blood pressure and I have no side effects whatsoever.

I am seeing a new doctor next week. Had to wait 2 months to get an appointment so I will start over from scratch again!!

Good news, Suzanne...and good luck! In the meantime do some aerobic exercise to strengthen the heart muscle. You may feel a lot better by the doctot's appointment.
