Right side daily headache and no diagnose

Posted by mima2018 @mima2018, Feb 4, 2018

I've been having a daily headache since October 2016. Have tried several neurologists, physical therapy, chiropractor, acupuncture, dentist and no one had given me a diagnose. I have tried so many different pills and botox. No help. I have a constant aching pain on the top right of the head, above and around ear, jaw, shoulder and neck. Im considering mayo clinic as the last resort. Anyone dealing with this type of headache? Any suggestions? MRI, CT scan and blood work or all normal. It all started while being extremely stressed and overloaded with work.

My wife has the same pain problem. Hers was finally diagnosed by a neck and spinal orthopedist who referred her to a pain specialist who performed a radio frequency ablation. It solved her many year problem.

Hi Colleen, I worked with the headache for one year and it was very difficult as my job is sitting in front of the computer for hours. I have 3 months that I don’t work and I still have a headache. I was hoping to be much better since I am not in front of the computer but no luck so far..I’m considering to come to the Mayo Clinic. Any suggestions of the best doctor in neurology? Thanks a lot!

I had the exact same pain and realized I was chewing only on the right side causing my jaw to deviate and the muscles to be extremely sore tender and just constant tension causing the headache. So I started using the left side of my mouth to eat building up the muscles on that side and it is helped a ton with my symptoms, but I also found out that I was low on blood, which causes low oxygen to the brain. I started taking a salt pill and drinking more water and it seemed like overnight my symptoms were gone!

Hi mima, I’m one of the people Colleen tagged. I do have chronic headaches every day. I have had them for years though. Mine has been diagnosed as coming from the vertebrae in my neck, C4-5, C5-6 now. When I was younger and now I know I have migraines.

A few things I’ve learned along the way, if you use over-the-counter pain medicine like Excedrin, Fioricet (prescription), and other meds, you will develop rebound headaches. It ends up a vicious cycle with the headaches get worse and the only way to get out of it is stop taking the medicines daily. The Botox works for tension headaches and migraines. I know I do have migraines because migraine medications work for me. Mine does tend to go from the right back of my neck through the top of my head and out my right eye. But it’s a migraine.

Sorry I don’t have better answers for you specially.

Oh, I have been getting botox since it was still experimental and it helps a lot, but I have multiple types of problems that cause headaches, including bone spurs down my entire cervical spine.

Thank you Jenna. I have tried so many migrane medications and none have worked for me. No luck with botox either. I’m hoping the doc will find the right medication that works but not until they find my exact diagnosis.

I’m glad botox is working for you. I had no luck witj the first two rounds. I also get very stiff shoulders and neck which I believe it might come from there but my neuro doest think so.

My headaches are definitely made worse by neck and shoulder muscle spasms. My muscles in those areas are often like ropes. Trigger point injections help in addition to Botox. My last Botox doc did hit up the muscles in my neck and shoulders. For me it helped a lot. Only thing is if the doc isn’t comfortable using Botox in those areas and uses it in too many muscles, it effects the use of your neck. It paralyzes the muscles injected, so if a lot of neck muscles don’t work you can’t hold your head up in certain positions. I only had this happen once, but it made it so I had to hold my head with my ponytail while leaning over to brush my teeth. It was fine standing or sitting, only a problem leaning over. Make sure your doc has used it in those areas. When mine knew what he was doing it worked great and helped a lot.
