Neupro patch

Posted by marie @mariemarie, Dec 13, 2017

I have been on sinemet (generic) for a month. One pill a day. The only side effect is stomach upset and head feels like cotton (stuffed). Neurologist asked if i want to try the patch and stop taking sinemet. Anyone had experience with patch?

Hi Marie,
It looks like no one else so far has first-hand experience with the Neupro Patch (rotigotine transdermal patch) for treatment of symptoms of Parkinson's. I found these 10 patient evaluations of the drug however: https://www.patientslikeme.com/treatment_evaluations/browse/963-neupro-patch-side-effects-and-efficacy. The effectiveness, side effects and burden of taking vary quite a bit between patients.

Do you find it burdensome to change the patch daily? Have you noticed improvements in your Parkinson's symptoms? If yes, which ones?

I change the patch each morning at 8 am. Takes a minute. The cost for 30 patches is $20 as of today. I have silver scripts as my prescription plan. My stiffness is practically gone. I do pedaling for Parkinson three times week which helps a lot. I'm going to try chair yoga. So far no side effects from patch. Patch is size of thumb nail. Any questions, let me know.

Hello Marie:

I'm glad to hear that your patch is working so well for you. I'm especially glad to hear the stiffness is so much better. Stiffness is my one big problem right now. I'm doing some Tai Chi chair exercises as well as some stretching for the stiffness in the thigh. It has helped a lot.

How is the chair yoga working for you?

Hi Marie: I take 2 Sinemet per day and 1 Stalevo (Stalevo has a smaller amount of Sinemet plus Entacapone). The Entacapone makes the Sinemet last longer. I also take a small amount of Amantadine in the evening. I would like to try the patch, however, my insurance plan does not cover it. The Sinemet lowers the blood pressure and that is a problem for me.

Marie: No, sorry, I meant that Sinemet lowers the BP and I would like to try the patch to see how that would work for me.

Oh, ok. The patch was a tier 4. However, as of today its a tier 2. The price went from $253 to $20 a month. I was in that stupid donut hole. Why don't they get rid of it.
