Radiation therapy for vulvar cancer
I am trying to find information from others who have had this treatment. My apointment is soon but my anxiety needs information sooner.

Teresa,
Far from a hero! Just a gal trying to make it through crappy deal, figuring out she isn't wonder woman, life goes on without lists, plan A always falls through, etc. And rediscovering what made me want to marry this guy almost 30 years ago! Finding out that a few great friends are a true gift and making some new friends that are absolutely amazing! I no longer control much of my life, when I've been a control freak for oh so long and that is a humbling experience. I have learned that I can trust, to a degree. That was a hard thing to rediscover. I learned that I can reach out, asking for help with things was also hard to relearn. Opening up to strangers, well, I no longer feel like we're strangers so you have helped me tremendously with all your encouragement, kind words, and virtual support. I know I would not have been brave enough to speak up about things with my care team had I not joined this community and had the reassurance from you and Colleen that care at Mayo is so individualized. You have your struggles, yet you find time to prop me up. You, sweet lady, are a true hero!
Vicky
I've been in similar situations. You have the right to as much privacy as you wish within what they are able to give you. That starts with your husband not being present. It use to be men were not expected to be in delivery rooms, nor did they want to. Now it seems unnatural if that is the case. One BIG thing people tend to forget under the stress of hospitalization is we can sign papers stating we don't want students involved-even if it is a teaching hospital. If for some reason they insist perhaps you can limit it to one or two students with limited participation. Ask questions as to the extent of involvement students & others may have & express your concerns. Your health & blood pressure & rate of healing should be their number one concern. Oh! Sorry, I just realized I'm posting a month late! I've been away in hospital. Hope all is well. Take care.
Thank you @lillyanne - you did provide some good information for us all.
How are you feeling after your hospitalization?

Hello my virtual tag team! Made it through week two of chemo and radiation so thought I would check in with you. I've adjusted much better than I would have guessed, with the help of you two and Angie at Mayo. My care team is amazing, just as you promised. I literally never could have dreamed the difference two weeks can make. I wish you and your families the merriest Christmas ever, and hope you enjoy some well deserved down time!
Hugs,
Vicky

Teresa,
I was just crushed when I found out how remotely everyone is working on theseessay boards. I had so hoped to see you and Colleen while in rochester. Guess I should have realized it. But you two became so important to me so quickly. I told Colleen and I'm going to make you the same promise! If you have to go to rochester campus you gotta let me know! I will make the drive up and give you an actual hug and say say hi.
You have an amazing Christmas!
Vicky
