Great Afib Educational Videos Discovered on YouTube

Posted by Zebra @californiazebra, 5 days ago

I recently stumbled across a great and ongoing series of short (average 10-12 minutes) educational videos for people with afib. I love the way Dr. Yasser Rodriguez explains everything and wish my cardiologist took the time to explain the why of everything. I’m posting a few links to videos I've watched to give you the flavor of them. Many, many more can be found on YouTube. I researched him to be sure he wasn’t an AI creation. He’s real. I hope this helps some of you.

Dr. Yasser Rodriguez, MD, MBA, FACC, FHRS is a board-certified, Harvard-trained cardiac electrophysiologist who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of complex heart rhythm disorders, specifically atrial fibrillation (AFib).

Online, he is best known as the creator and host of Fight AFib, a popular educational YouTube channel.

Through his Fight AFib YouTube Channel, Dr. Rodriguez and his wife produce evidence-based videos designed to translate complex medical concepts into simple, actionable advice for patients such as:
• AFib Education: Explaining the stages of AFib progression, symptoms (like palpitations and shortness of breath), and stroke risks.
• Lifestyle Triggers: Identifying how sleep positions, alcohol, stress, caffeine, and sleep apnea can impact heart rhythms.
• Treatment & Procedures: Breaking down how medications work and what patients actually experience during common procedures like catheter ablation.

@2bfitt
Sorry to hear about your Afib Dx. Glad the videos were helpful. I'm finally having a pulsed field ablation right after Thanksgiving. I've had approximately 300 long afib episodes (up to 65 hours) in the past 6 years brought on by a cancer med. The EP (next county second opinion approved by my cardiologist) believes he has a 90% chance of success on the first ablation for my case. The first flippant EP had grim predictions that made me decline. He also would have made a severe error with the catheter due to his lack of pre-op mapping when I reported a rare venous anomaly. I highly recommend getting two opinions especially when something feels off with the first. I have a 30% burden, am extremely symptomatic, have so many life restricting Afib triggers, so success would be life changing for me. Anesthesia causes long term effects for me cognitively so let's hope it's one and done. Praying for the best for you as well.

What a find! Thank you for sharing your discovery. I, too, am now following Dr. Rodriguez and ordered his book. Much of what I read, thus far, was also explained to me by my medical team. The check lists are helpful and strategies on how to slow down the Afib progression are informative. As of yet, I am not a candidate for ablation therapy, but I realize that this will likely be a part of my future. I am learning to navigate this new way of living and the Mayo Clinic forum has helped tremendously.
