@bill54321 I am like you, it's PLMA (PLMD while awake). It really hurts, by the end of the day my legs ache so bad. I also have RLS, but this is completely different.

There are many threads on this topic. You'll have to go through the index of threads and find them, but they're only two to four pages back. Here is one such thread:

Hello @taylorma,

As @gloaming mentioned, there are a few discussions on PLMSD. I combined your discussion with one of those existing discussions titled:

"Periodic Limb Movement Disorder"
- https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/periodic-limb-movement-disorder/

While the discussion was started in 2019, there have been many members who have shared their experience with both awake and sleeping issues with periodic limb movement disorder.

Recently, @markbaldridge @beejenigma shared some of their experiences with this disorder and they may be able to share an update on how they are currently managing periodic limb movement disorder. @taylorma, what sort of things have you tried to manage this disorder?

@JustinMcClanahan
I was also with sleep apnea , but is mild and have not been using mask because it did not help my sleep. I been given several medications and currently using Ambien. I just hate being on these medications I read the side effects and freak out.

I was diagnosed about 30 years ago with PLMS (it was called Periodic Limb Movement while Sleeping). I tried many medications, but the only one that has helped is Clonazepam, before bed. It's highly addictive, & you'll need to periodically wean yourself off, as you build a tolerance. The doctor can fill you in on the details. It was very frustrating going through all the other drugs, before landing on Clonazepam. Good luck.

Hi
My name is Christopher Bosworth. The information and posts are very helpful. I have had periodic limb movement for about two years. It has been especially helpful to read that people have the movements while trying to sleep (I believe that it is called periodic limb movement awake, (PLMA) ). Looking at the posts are helpful to me because I don't feel alone. I am wondering if there might be in person support groups for PLM in San Diego. Also hoping that there might be online support groups; and if not that someone could assist me in starting a new group. I am eager to get some help and help others as well. Thank you all for your support.

Welcome @lucybaily1, I think there is a group that meets monthly in Southern California - https://www.rlshelp.org/.

Thank you for your response, regarding sleep support groups, John. I'm not exactly sure how to find the monthly group. I will go to that rlshelp.

Thanks again,
Christopher Bosworth
