Posted by Jennifer @megan123, Nov 18, 2017

Recently diagnosed with pseodomas. Already have bronchiectasis and NTM MAI. This came out of nowhere. In
Good shape, doing everything right, boiling water etc...anyway, scared and sad. Just found out yesterday. Started Cipro 750 mg x2 a day for 2 was. Then another sputum. Need time to wrap my head around this, but
It's so disheartening when u r Dioulasso g everything right, and u still get the pseudo...sucks

@mp3542 Is there a possibility you could have a bacterial infection and a fungal infection and the doctors aren’t treating the fungal issue? Sorry to hear of your situation. Lots to deal with, with the BE too.

@jnmy possibly could have both, never checked.
Unless the drs. Did and didn’t tell me.
Either way nothing has worked.
I deal with this and trochanteric calcium growths which is a horrible pain to deal with. And a failed back fusion.
I’m batting a thousand. Buh!!

I have a sinus infection that I’ve had for over 45 years. Can’t get rid of it no matter what antibiotics they put me on.
I had tons of problems with my tonsils before I was 18. Finally had them out when was 21.
I’m 63 now.
They even put me on Cipro 750 2x a day for a month. It didn’t even touch it!
The only antibiotic that still works is doxycycline. I live in the central
Oregon high desert where the humidity is very low. I get flare ups when I go to
To the willamette valley (Portland or Salem) the humidity is very high there!
I can’t even stay 2 days there because the flare ups I feel will kill me within a week.
It gets into my lungs and the coughing is so distressing I pass out!
The doxycycline will knock it back down as long as I get back to the desert.
But it won’t get rid of it.
The drs. Are very sparingly giving me doxycycline because they feel if it starts to have no effect I’ll have nothing to use against other infections.
Anybody have any ideas?

@mp3542
Have you tried Gentamicin? I have chronic sinus infections which I believe are from having ABPA.

@susanrg20 no, they haven’t tried that. Usually If it’s a
Cillin or micin in the name it typically doesn’t work.

@irenea8 I’ve also had 2 sinus operations.
They have ruined the my sinus linings so that if I do wash out my sinuses every day they will bleed for 2 hours.
ENT Drs. Say the pseodamona infection is in the bone so they can’t cut it out. I can’t let this rule my life.
So I just live with it.
This just sucks!

@mp3542 , May I ask how you know that the pseudomonas infection is in your nasal bones? Did the doctor perform surgery? Was a CT scan done? Thank you, and I hope that you are able to find some relief.

@formergardener good morning . I have Pseudomonas in my left maxillary sinus determined by a culture showing Pseudomonas colonized which means it’s resting there no active infection now ( have been several) ….and in my lungs determined by a sputum . The notion is the bacteria dripped down through my nose into my lungs due to the connection of the respiratory system . My Pulmonologist is dealing with the lungs ..I’m 85 years old and having maxillary Antrostomy surgery on Wednesday under General Anesthesia. The sinus needs to be opened more for better drainage .and dried pus and hopefully bacteria cleaned out . The ENT Dr feels he can eradicate the Pseudomonas …it’s long overdue and the ENT Dr says he needs to do more than what he can do in his office thus the surgery. All the best to all those dealing with this bacteria and how in the world did we catch it ??

@kaybast My goodness. It is great that you have a team approach to deal with this.

How did your doctor know that you had this in your sinus? Did you have a CT, you were treated, and the infection did not clear? How did he get a culture? When I went to my ENT, he put a scope up my nose and showed me all was clear and tissues were healthy, but I know that not everything can be visualized through the scope. What prompted the culture, and how did he get it?? Did he simply swab it? I appreciate your sharing.

@formergardener hi.yes, my ENT Dr did a culture …he swabbed the inside of my left nostril and sent the swab to the lab .. it came back as Pseudomonas colonized . Then shortly after he had a CT scan done . It also showed opaque rather than black which means healthy . I’m scheduled for sinus surgery this Wednesday and he feels that he will be able to eradicate the bacteria . Last year and early this year I had infections and I was treated with IV antibiotics , one 14 days and the other 21 days.
At 85 years old I am happy to finally get this all behind me . I do have to go under general Anesthesia however I trust my team and look forward to success. Thanks for sharing !

@kaybast I will be thinking of you. Having confidence in your doctor is important, and that confidence is earned over time. I wish you a speedy recovery and riddance of this infection. You are very strong and have good years ahead of you. Please let us know how you progress with your recovery!
