Has anyone taken creatine supplements to improve low muscle mass?

I'm hoping to hear from others, especially older women with low muscle mass, regarding the outcome of taking creatine supplements. Many thanks for sharing any experience.

74M. I started about 8 months ago. I'm not a big believer in things I read about new supplements, etc. I consider myself more of a science guy than a "Facebook Says" guy. But I am sold. Progress in lifting weights and doing pushups after taking this stuff shows me an obvious benefit. It's about the only supplement I take. I do add a little Vit. D in the winter and occasionally take some calcium. But I'm taking Creatine every day.

Thanks for letting me know! Can you let me know the dose you're taking? I think the usual is 5 g but as a thin woman I've started at much less.

I have taken it for a month but only for energy. I am very sedentary and don’t exercise. I’m looking for anything that gives me energy. I don’t think I’ll continue taking this as I don’t know how it can benefit me. I’m looking for motivation and energy.

@tillymack
I was told that 3-5g is a good starting point, so maybe 3g is good for you. I prefer mine in yogurt over anything else.

@cdianeb Finding motivation can be tough... it's immensely helpful if it can be found from outside ourselves, but that's not always available. Your words "don't exercise"... is that by choice or by physical limitation? Getting up, moving around, getting the blood flowing to your fingers and toes, trust me, please, just doing that on purpose can feel good, generate some positive "energy", and that good feeling you get can be your motivation to do it some more! Keep with the creatine, at least 5 mg/day. Good luck to you!

@kjoed53 after reading this blog, I did some research. I am a female with inflammation issues so I started taking it last week. Will see if it helps.

@browndognotnow I also have a problem with inflamation in ankles stemming from chronic venous insufficiency. After lots of research, I decided to move forward too. Currently up to 1 tsp per day. I mix the powder with warm skim milk. All good so far.
I hope to hear about your experience with creatine as well 🙂

@capnjack Thanks for the information. I have neuropathy which makes my legs and feet weak and sometimes painful but I can stand and walk for several minutes at a time. You’re right about moving around helping motivation-I’ve noticed that. I’ve gotten into a daily routine of sitting on my couch and watching movies all day. I’ve lost some weight and my neuropathy has improved. I think I’m mostly lazy. Your reply has helped to encourage me. I’m going to do better. Thank you 😊.
