Anyone have odd brain sensations, when tappering Prednisone??

Posted by helpme26 @helpme26, Oct 2 10:00am

I was diagnosed in June of 2025 and started on Prednisone 20mg. Now down to 3mg with no pain. I seem to not be able to go lower than this as then I get a feeling in my head that is like squeezing my brain. Anyone else have anything like this? I've had an MRI and neurologist says my brain is just aging(74) and I'm old.

Pedialyte or unsweetened coconut water. Both work extreemly well for me. Remember that hydration flushes the bad stuff (waste) out.
I easily drink 3-4 liters of water every day. I use refillable glass (staying away from plastic) bottles. I have to stay hydrated and retain electrolytes to prevent muscle cramps. That was long before my PMR.

Thanks! That's good ideas too. I like coconut water too. Never tried Pedialyte.
Thanks again.

@boomermeg I use the electrolyte power to be mixed with water. Also easier to have one to carry with you.

It also explains about electrolytes being lost too and my Rheumatologist mentioned electrolytes too.
It makes sense what it said about the vessels narrowing due to dehydration and I've heard some Dr's say it's easy to get dehydrated and not realize it because we actually need more water than we think. Hope it helps.
I need to try to find a good electrolyte powder without sugar or junk it in. I looked a little but they can be expensive and they don't pay for return shipping, at least the ones I looked at. Will keep looking. Store ones can work but prefer to make at home with filtered water.
Hope water helps you. Blessings.

I buy my electrolytes from Dr.
Livingood online. Clean ingredients and choices of flavors. I love the lemon lime!

Thank you. I'm only tapering at 17.5mg now so I'm not sure it would be related to adrenals at this doseage. My husband likes Gatorade Gatorlyte, but I don't like the ingredients or sucrose. I'll check out Body Armor, thanks. They use other names for many of the artificial sweetners, but if you look them up, you'll find they're the same as the ones you know aren't good (like 99.9% of them, other than stevia or some natural ones). Xylitol seems to be everywhere now and if you look that up it's really bad too, even for our hearts. Sucralose can alter our gut microbiome so that's a big No for me too. Wonder why these companies keep putting toxic stuff in products? Profits over humans? I'm trying to find a powder I can mix that tastes good without artificial sweeteners or too much real sugar. Stevia is ok. Hard to find. Anyway, thanks again. Blessings.

@carolejean I read a book called Ultra Processes People and I’ve since cut out 90% of processed food products and feel much better even with PMR! It’s frightening what lengths the factory food industry will go to to make us addicted to their products ..

I agree! They put so many chemicals and unclean ingredients in food we have to be really careful. It is expensive and hard to do only clean organic foods but I try to do the best I can.

@betsyhase it can be expensive but doesn’t have to be. Basic ingredients such as chickpeas, bulgur wheat, quinoa, fresh vegetables are all economical. Since I’ve had PMR i’ve cut out virtually all snack food like cookies, sugary cereal, carbonated soft drinks, pasta and cheap bread and I’m saving money. And it’s helping me taper off pred I believe..

Yes, I have also cleaned up my diet. I could be alittle better but much better than I use to be.

@boomermeg let me know if you find artificial sugars in body armor. I know there is sugar and stevia but other than that I didn’t notice anything else. I am limiting my artificial ingredients as well.

I looked up the body Armour drink in bottles, strawberry banana, and it looks clean. The only issue for myself is so many additional vitamins. I already take a multi-vitamin for women 50+, C, D3, Calcium, Magnesium, and some other supplements. B12 I'm really sensitive to. I'll have to look at what's already in my Multi but it looks pretty good if there aren't too high % of certain vitamins. Didn't see anything bad, or negative in terms of ingredients. Thanks for sharing it. I might try 1 to see if it affects me too much (vitamins). Blessings.
