Flutter valve and nebulizer together at the same time

Posted by jjudah @jjudah, Jan 13 9:31pm

Can I nebulize by breathing in the solution and out through my flutter valve-killing two birds with one stone? If, so, how and when do I do the huff cough. I was nebulizing first and then using my flutter valve and doing the huff cough. What is the recommended procedure?

I use the Aeroclipse alone at first and then add the Aerobica using both together. It works well for me this way. That is why I am hesitant to get the Pari-E flow. I don’t know if I’d be saving time since the aerobics does not attach to it.

The eFlow takes 4+ minutes per 4mL vial of saline. I do airway clearance during the neb phase as the strong saline brings on airway clearance naturally. I have little difficulty producing sputum. It might not work as well if you have difficulty bringing stuff up. We are all the same in having bronchiectasis but that's where the similarities end.

Do you use Aerobica after it? If so, how long does that take?

Also I love the idea to use it for travel, but if I want to sterilize the mesh part, I hear you are not to put it in the baby bottle sterilizer. What about putting it in the Nathone collapsible cauldron?

@cavlover If the cauldron boils the parts in water, it should work fine. I have been boiling our handsets in a saucepan with distilled water for more than a year with no issues.

As for timing, it only takes about 4 minutes to nebulize. I find the rapid inhalation of the saline generally sets off my clearance naturally. On days when I do not neb, exercise is more effective for me than the Aerobika for bringing up mucus, but use it for about 10 minutes if I am in the car or otherwise unable to exercise.

To answer your question, I use the Aerobika when I’m having difficulty getting anything up, which is mostly during the p.m. clearance. Sometimes but not always. I find it can be useful because then I feel like I’ve done everything I could to clear my lungs.

I use the aerobika and aeroclipse together when I nebulize, then I use a percussion vest. I'm not sure I need the percussion vest anymore. I will need to experiment without it and see. I have been on Brinsupri for a year now and it's been a big change for the better for me.

Do you think we should start a new conversation about Brinsupri and those who have taken it for a year now? It would be interesting to see how everyone who has taken it for the year has done and what their experiences were and be able to view it in one place under that topic.

@cwal You are welcome to start such a discussion- may I suggest that you title it "Experince with Brinsupri one year or longer?" That covers "early adopters" going forward.
Does that work for you?

What about Albuterol first?

Jump to this post

@cressida92 yes, I use levalbuterol (albuterol) in my neb. Then I do hepatonic saline, followed by aeropika. I'm going to combine the saline with the aerobics. That would cut down my therapy time and improve quality of life! Curious what others have to say.

@nickraosr Dr Pamela McShane recommends doing them separately to give the saline time to work. In my experience this has been true. And if I exercise after the saline, I seldom need the Aerobika
