@gigi4 I take 2 Pure Encapsulations Digestive Enzymes Ultra (they have another, but this one recommended by functional practitioner) just before each meal.

That’s great-Anything that helps means alot! And makes our day so much better!
I have Gastroparesis probably caused by in hospital treatment with opioids of Parkinson’s dystonia. But the Gastroparesis is essentially slow stomach emptying.
The basic treatment is with pro kinetic medication. I take 20 mg of Domeperidone three times daily, nizatidine two times daily, and ginger about 3000 mg in divided doses throughout the day. You could also try artichoke leaf. There are other medications for slow digestion. But there are medications which can slow digestion such as opiates, benzodiazepines, muscle relaxants, nsaids and other medications. Do your research!
You will need prescriptions for nizatidine and Domeperidone. And Domeperidone is illegal in the USA. I get mine from Canada. Depending on your situation, there is a way to get domeperidone from a special pharmacy in the USA. But it is a hassle.
There are other medications medication that may help but once again you need a prescription. Erythromycin and reglan work. But you need to know there are potentially side effects of the medications. Please call your physician for some help…
I have had slow gastric emptying since childhood and have been able to have reasonable control over it by giving up on three meals a day and have become a "grazer", eating up to six very small meals a day. Just make sure you are not grazing on cookies and candy bars, etc. but on good healthy foods that you would eat at a normal meal only in very small amounts. I don't eat high fiber foods or guzzle quarts of water every day (I think the forced water fad is finally just about over). Also, I watch fatty and sugary foods and when I do want a little sweetening I use pure organic maple syrup. It has worked for me for decades until now when I have developed double gas SIBO which is a whole other story you can learn more about in other discussions on the Mayo website. Also, have you seen a dietitian who specializes in slow gastric emptying. You might find a lot of help there. Best of Luck!

2 ReactionsThe Cleveland Clinic has a good section on gastroparesis. I was having so many stomach aches that I started to stick to the recommended diet. Also, not mixing diary with foods high in iron(melons, potatoes).
I feel much better…in addition to trying to eat 6 small meals (better known as snacks)

1 ReactionI really want to try the mastic gum. I had 24 hrs without stomach pain after trying acupunture. so I'm going again next week. also try a home made kefir that a friend gave me grains to make. feeling super bloated after drinking it, but the pain has subsided for the time being.

1 Reaction@evangeline8 be aware: the mastic gum is supposed to fight h.pylori, not necessarily tied to gastroparesis. Kefir would provide lots of great probiotics 🙂
@lindaannstarr ditto! I love a crunchy "snack" meal. One of my faves is RAW broccoli STEMS. The florets are great for a cooked side dish, but most ppl just throw out the stems. They are delicious! They keep for days and provide lots of nutrition, not the least of which is calcium. (I've never drunk a glass of cow's milk in my life (allergic to dairy since age 2) (Im almost 76) but I've eaten a lot of crunchy vegs, do a lot of outside work, and never had a broken bone.)
