My son, age 50, has symptoms that sound like gastropariesis.
He can eat very little and is loosing a lot of weight. And he was always been thin to begin with.
He has not been to a Dr yet and I encouraged him to make an appointment very soon.
From what I have read, there is no cure.

@misseygirl, with your son already being thin and now losing a lot of weight because he can eat so little, I can understand why you’re concerned.

Gastroparesis can have a number of possible causes or associations, including diabetes, previous stomach or intestinal surgery, some viral illnesses, certain medications and other medical conditions. Sometimes an underlying cause isn’t found. Identifying what may be contributing is important because treatment can depend on the cause as well as the severity of symptoms.

Mayo Clinic has a helpful overview of the causes, diagnosis and treatment of gastroparesis:

Since your son hasn’t seen a doctor yet, what is his next step toward getting evaluated, especially with the weight he is losing?

I continue to have stomach pain, sour stomach, nausea after eating, bloating as well. I just did a 36 hr fast and it didn't seem to help, this has been going on for 2 months and I tend to chase food, eat something to get it to go away. any ideas.

@jlharsh
Thank you for the insight.
My son has a routine colonoscopy in 2 days.
I think he wants to get that done before moving forward.
I encouraged him to call for a Dr appointment ASAP as it might take awhile to get one.
I am very concerned and have been praying for him.
And trying to encourage him & be helpful but not too interfering. As he is a grown man at age 50.

@evangeline8 this sounds like me, before I figured out dairy was a no-no for me! (Except real butter.)

I had a good day, ate protein..hamburger and beans. it usually hits me in the evening or at night when my stomach is empty. so i'm thinking of asking for a H pylori test if it continues. something to rule out maybe.

@evangeline8 Have you tried Mastic gum? It's a kind of tree sap that is dried in drops. It's a little like chewing wax; you must work it around in the mouth until it becomes like chewing gum. But it is supposed to kill the h.pylori. It worked for me.

Mastic gum sounds interesting and something I would like to try. What brand do you recommend? Where supplements are sourced is important to the quality of the product.

I went to a Naturopathic center years ago and was put on a candida cleanse diet. It really helped but the diet was hard to follow and left me depleted of energy. My stomach problems were gone for a period of time.

Thanks for this contribution. Marian

@marian2 I have had this packet of mastic gum (labeled Chios Mastiha Tears) for over a year & can't remember where I found it. I see that there is another brand on Amazon. Also, on the slow digestion subject, I found another hint: carbonated drinks discourage stomach acid formation. I'm still researching this, but it makes sense for ME . . . I love a Pepsi with my midday meal. sighhhh

Digestive Enzymes may help. I see a Functional Medicine Doctor and she suggested that would help. I do not know if getting one requires a doctor prescription.
