Long-term stomach problems from being on GLP ones for 3+ years

Posted by wcalsch @wcalsch, May 12 6:27pm

I started a GLP ones in 2022. I started out with Mojarro and switched this last February to semi glide because of cost after I started taking it in February I had two episodes of vomiting and then I switched locations of shot the next week had three days of vomiting multiple times a day decided to discontinue the medication since then I’ve had continuous stomach problems, stomach pain acid reflex, and have a hard time eating and I’m nauseated most of the day has anyone had anything similar? I’ve been off the meds for six weeks now it is getting better but the nausea still there every day and hard for me to eat much.

I have several friends taking GLP1 drugs. Haven't heard of these digestive side effects, so I'm glad to read of these cases! Has anybody tried re-plenishing gut flora, possibly with kimchee, fermented kraut, or supplements?

I am taking Allign probiotics along with macro & micro biotics. Doesn’t seem to have made much difference. I’m trying the fodmap diet, but the more reasearch I do the fewer things I can eat on that diet. My diet choices are becoming more limited as time goes on.
Because the wealthy drug companies get richer and every glp1 ad I see on tv is so incredibly misleading, I am facing living a life being able to never eat normally again. Wish I had never had a doctor suggest so strongly that this was the right thing to do. Now it’s ruined life.
Unless you are living this nightmare yourself you will never know the stress and heartbreak taking & believing you doctors advice can lead you down this path and then suggest it is the wonder drug that all people should be on for practically all health issues. It will put an end to alcohol addiction along with many other social health problems.
Big pharma is now putting out drugs that are still in trial phases and are unbelievably expensive, and almost all fine print side effects include suicidal thoughts, oh and. ….. the ever popular side effect DEATH! The rich get richer and we are their guinea pigs.
I had hope for support from this group. Sadly the only responses have come from people wanting to help, but have no personal experience with glp1s.

@bodhi57 - I've been on semaglutide (Wegovy) and had to deal with a ton of GI side effects: nausea, loose stools and random vomiting, and on occasion, gut pain.

I'm sorry you've had a challenging time on this drug, as well. I'm hoping to continue to inch up on my dosage as I'm ready, but I'm also a little concerned if I will have to deal with these effects forever.

I believe you said you are currently on the lowest dose. Do the GI side effects start as you increase dosages or at the lowest dose?

Did you start this ordered by your doctor for diabetes or did you pay for it yourself from an internet site? I would be very leery about what I was taking over the internet. How much weight did you lose?

@helenapanier have you tried reducing the dose? I couldn’t tolerate 15mg or even the 12. I’m back down to 10 and it is much better and I am still getting the benefits of less appetite and no food noise.

GLP1 Injections really do cause alot of problems. I never really thought of an aid to help me lose weight but with my disability, my mobility is severely limited so I cant go exercise and go for walks like I used to. Due to that i gained weight and Im tired of always going to my doctor and have him always comment on my weight like im overeating or something so I agreed to go on the injections to help lose weight. I was put on Saxenda but i'll never know if it would've helped because I had chronic vomiting to the point I was vomiting blood. I went back to the clinic and they switched me to Ozempic. Anyway, as I said they switched me to Ozempic. Even with Ozempic I had the vomiting, nausea, etc everyday. Almost 3 years later I was diagnosed with gastroparesis and taken off. Biggest thing: If you stop the injections you will gain all the weight back and more. Because they stopped me taking it I gained it all back.

There are a lot of law suits for glp1 drugs
Alot of health issues from it including blindness. since 2020 people became very overweight and since then those drug companies are praying on people. They can ruin your life . I would rather excersise to lose weight than take a chance on my life like that . One person died this year from the gastroperisis it caused . The side effects are permanent.

@19281928 I'm currently experiencing issues similar to gastroparesis enhanced by four and a half months of a glp1 prescribed by Mike endocrinologist I have lost over 30 lb have no appetite force myself to eat I did just have testing per my gastroenterologist which included an abdominal ultrasound and a stomach emptying study if I'm reading the report correctly both are normal results and I'm waiting to speak to my gastroenterologist I am also multiple sclerosis warrior diagnosed in 2002. When the appetite loss started I started drinking glucerna hunger smart carb steady shakes no more than two a day since May of 2026 I'm wondering if that's adding to my bloating and gas issues as well as diarrhea on the occasion. Just putting my story out there I'm not looking for medical advice just curious just to anyone else having those issues as well
