Long-term stomach problems from being on GLP ones for 3+ years
I started a GLP ones in 2022. I started out with Mojarro and switched this last February to semi glide because of cost after I started taking it in February I had two episodes of vomiting and then I switched locations of shot the next week had three days of vomiting multiple times a day decided to discontinue the medication since then I’ve had continuous stomach problems, stomach pain acid reflex, and have a hard time eating and I’m nauseated most of the day has anyone had anything similar? I’ve been off the meds for six weeks now it is getting better but the nausea still there every day and hard for me to eat much.

Did you start this ordered by your doctor for diabetes or did you pay for it yourself from an internet site? I would be very leery about what I was taking over the internet. How much weight did you lose?

1 ReactionThere are a lot of law suits for glp1 drugs
Alot of health issues from it including blindness. since 2020 people became very overweight and since then those drug companies are praying on people. They can ruin your life . I would rather excersise to lose weight than take a chance on my life like that . One person died this year from the gastroperisis it caused . The side effects are permanent.

1 ReactionYes, some people who have taken GLP-1 medications long term, including Mounjaro and semaglutide-based drugs, do report ongoing stomach problems even after stopping the medication because these drugs intentionally slow stomach emptying and digestion, and in some individuals that effect seems to persist for weeks or occasionally longer, leading to symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, acid reflux, stomach pain, bloating, difficulty eating and feeling full very quickly, sometimes resembling Gastroparesis or severe irritation of the stomach lining, so while it is encouraging that your symptoms are gradually improving after 6 weeks off the medication, many people with similar experiences say recovery can be frustratingly slow and it is definitely worth discussing with your doctor since persistent nausea and poor food intake can sometimes require evaluation for delayed gastric emptying, dehydration, gastritis, reflux damage or gallbladder-related complications.

3 ReactionsI understand that GLP drugs destroy the good gut flora; you might consider taking some probiotics or even eating fermented foods, kraut, yogurt, et c. for a few wks. Replacing good flora could take months.

1 ReactionHad a ultrasound and bloodwork yesterday and everything appears normal, next step with be gastric emptying and Endoscopy if symptoms persist. Trying to eat small amounts frequently and reduce stress. Thanks for you input, its new territory and not a lot of info on it.
@jayanthk Great insight thank you!
Hello, sorry about your gastric issues. I've been taking Mounjaro since July 2025. For type II diabetes and weight loss. Started at 2.5 mg., then 5.0 , then 7.5, but experienced severe acid reflux and some vomiting. So gastroenterologist recommended going back down to 5.0 which i seem to be tolerating well. Dr. Performed Colonoscopy and endoscopy last week. Waiting on results on 11 biopsies as I also had several polyps. Will let u know outcome.
Hi @wcalsch, and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect! It sounds like are struggling with side effects of GLP1 that are definitely not fun.
You mention testing with the possibility of endoscopy. You may want to review what Mayo Clinic has summarized, maybe share it with your doctor. I want to point out a couple specific sections, Management of Gastrointestinal Adverse Effects and Preventive Management Strategies Before Endoscopy:

How are you feeling by now? What is next?
