Has anyone tried the TENS machine for pain?
Has anyone tried the "Tens"machine for pain? There are many kinds sold on Amazon. Dr Ho is advertised on tv a lot. I have a cheaper model and use it on my shoulder and hip but no success that I can notice so far.

My PT and acupuncturist both say they are a waste of time
I was hoping it would have helped you. Nothing has had any effect in my thalamic pain from a stroke, and it was one that I hadn’t tried yet
I empathize with you

1 ReactionAsk for a PT or OT evaluation, and they can recommend a different kind of electrical stimulation unit that can make a difference. TENS didn't do anything for me, but they had something that really worked.

1 Reaction@leahrogne Do you remember what it was or can find out? I've never heard of another similar electrical stimulator. If that worked, it would be so valuable to know. Thank you!
Yes I used a tens unit after neck surgery and it was very helpful but it wasn’t quick. I used it daily.

What my occupational therapist is using is called: Interferential Current (IFC). Here's one IFC product: https://www.balego.com/products/if-4000-interferential-ifc-unit-machine
There are others. You might as your doctor for a referral to an OT and then they will evaluate you and then can tell about an IFC and how to use it They can advise you whether they think it would work for you. If you do that, your insurance might pay for it (or partically pay). Good luck.

1 ReactionThank you so much, Leah, for all that helpful information. I will check into the IFC and see what I can do, going forward.
@painsurvivor I have used a tens unit for decades. You can buy them over the counter now. They have always helped me. It is definitely work a try. Best of luck!
@jhrivers Where do you place it? I live alone and can't reach my back. I suppose I can try it on my neck. I have a unit I tried a couple of years ago and didn't help. I'd like to try it again but I'm not sure how.
@painsurvivor I have always put it on the areas that are bothering me that day. I keep turning it up until I get the desired strengths. If it starts hurting back it down until you get used to it. Keep titrating up slowly until it blocks the pain.
I hope this helps you!
