Has anyone had swelling and pain in thighs?

Posted by 2mary @2mary, 3 days ago

I was diagnosed with PMR in February and today I have the worst pain in my left thigh. It is swollen twice the size of my other leg and cannot walk without help. I don’t see a rheumatologist until next week. I’m now on 5 mg of prednisone and took 6 this morning and nothing is helping. Thanks

@p0rtia Thank you! I did and had a steroid shot in my hip so hope this will take care of the swelling. It’s been a rough year.

@p0rtia Thank you. Have you had swelling before?

You need to be seen by a Dr is my first response. I'm so sorry this is happening to you but swelling that much in one leg is very bad and could be serious. Don't wait, go to the Er if you can't get in to see your PCP or Urgent care. That's my advice on swelling of this type. I hope you can get seen Thursday AM at latest. Blessings.

I have had edema n my feet and legs for years as a result of PMR onset. The left leg was first followed a few weeks later by the right leg. I also have had searing pain in my legs for years. Finally when I was on Tyenne the searing pain dissipated. I receive lymphatic massages every other week for the edema to keep it under control.
Please also make an appointment with your PCP for the leg problem since it may or may not be associated with the reason you are going to see a Rheumy. My rheumy is dismissive of specific symptoms and routinely says "every patient is different". She does not focus on individual symptoms. Your leg problem is not something that should be dismissed quickly. I would think they might want to eliminate a possible dangerous cause before lumping it into the PMR bucket.
I wish you success on your journey and remember you know your body best.

@2mary No. But I know such swelling can be either benign or quite dangerous, and should thus be checked out. Did the shot help?

@boomermeg Thank you. I was able to have a steroid shot yesterday and the swelling is going down and the pain isn’t as bad.
