Heart Palpitations

Hi there! I am a 40yr old young female who is active and pretty healthy. I do suffer from anxiety. I have all the sudden noticed my heart beat when I am laying down sometimes. I can feel it beating. Is this normal? Am I being hyperaware?

@shmerdloff I haven’t used the Kardia Mobile since getting the pacemaker, and I’m not sure if it would interfere or not. Microwaves used to be an issue, but no longer are. Would imagine your doctor would need to let you know. I’m still on Flecainide for the Afib, as a pacemaker doesn’t address that problem, just the bradycardia caused by sick sinus syndrome. Hope this information helps.

@mbixler
Yes. Helps. TY. Kardia gets confused by pacemaker signals.😕

You might get yourself a smartwatch. I’ve had an Apple Watch for about 6 years. I use it often to check my heart rate and view and record ECGs. It’s fairly accurate and you can monitor your bpm while exercising. My cardiology clinic recommended it and I rely on it daily. I’ve had two loop recorders and now have a pacemaker, but the watch lets me see what’s happening in real time rather than waiting for the reports from the clinic. Good luck!

First thumbs up on getting a smart watch. It saved me. More importantly seek your doctor/ get in to with a cardiologist. Your situation may mean nothing serious…. Yet heart problems have no age limit… or starting point. Hope this helps

I am not sure what would be normal for you. I can feel my heart beating when I am still. I also have some anxiety so when I first became aware, it caused me to feel anxious at times. I just got.used to it. I don't remember how old I was when I first became aware of this. Probably similar to your age. . Consider following up with your primary care doc or cardiologist. Minimally it would give you peace of mind. Good luck to you.

"Am I being hyperaware?"

In my non-professional, largely uninformed opinion, and based on personal experience...

Yes.

Don't get to be seventy years old and look back and realize, "I wasted thirty years worrying about nothing."

The human body is very powerful and resilient. Learn to trust it more and your anxiety less.

Try the “vagal” maneuver if your heart races VT’s. Take a deep breath hold it, squeeze the bridge of your nose ( so air won’t escape). Then for 15 seconds bear down and mimic inflating a ballon, while your mouth and lips stay shut. It works for me, and my heart rate slows down. My ultimate culprit was obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Hope this helps.
