Magnesium timing to prevent nighttime muscle spasms

Anyone else taking 2 capsules a day? In addition to the bedtime dose, would it be more effective to take the other with dinner instead of lunch?

In my case, I was having severe inner thigh cramps at night. Keeping an ice pack in a cooler next to my bed was a bedtime ritual. My primary Dr suggested a daily 250mg Magnesium Gluconate pill. The cheapest pills I could find were 500mg so I bought a pill spliter. (The tablets were really hard) This substantually reduced cramping.
While on vacation my pill splitter broke so I used the whole 500mg pills instead. It has been two months and I have not had a leg cramp since.

I take magnesium gluconate 500 mg twice daily because of painful coronary artery spasms after heart attack repair of Right Coronary Artery occulusion with atherosclerosis in 2016 at age 75. I order it over the counter (OTC) from our local grocery store pharmacy. My former pharmacist recommended that for my request for a magnesium supplement. It costs less than more refined magnesium remedies, about $5 for 90 tablets. I order two bottles for am and pm use.
