Toilet paper may be causing irritation.

Having developed vaginal itching, my doctor prescribed topical steroids and estrogen cream which were not good options for me. She gave me a diagnosis that fit the general symptoms and then I was on my own.
I tried some hypo-allergenic creams on my own and things get a bit better but still not totally symptom free.
I went travelling to a country that does not allow toilet paper in the toilet and uses septic safe toilet paper as well. Symptoms actually improved a bit on this vacation. I put it down to less stress.
Then I recently discovered that toilet paper can actually cause irritation due to roughness and chemicals like toxic forever chemicals. Picture wiping your privates with a soup of toxic chemicals. Yikes!
Here is an article. There are many others.

I switched to septic safe tp after the holiday and my symptoms are almost non-existent. After finding about this tp thing, I recently ordered a big bunch of non-scented, septic safe bamboo toilet paper. I’ll keep you posted. The order is a few weeks out from now.
I am also switching facial tissue to bamboo to see if it helps my rosacea.
Post if you have any insights on this topic.

I have to use certain toilet paper or I breakout, I like a few of the bamboo tissues. I also mostly use a bidet.

For years I was safe with angels soft but in the last year they changed. I'm so much safer with bamboo! REEL or
Who gives a crap bamboo toilet paper ( they actually have fun decorative wrappers too it's actually kind of nice). I've had great success using these I'm not sure of any others I'm too afraid to try it is very uncomfortable testing these things if you don't have to.

So yes there is something in the mainstream tp that just can have an effect with a person who is sensitive. I'm severely immunocompromised from mold toxicity so my sensitivity is only been heightened and worse breaking out or issues as a child I had always been sensitive but now older with the toxicity exacerbates any issues.

My face funny you mention it is been very red and sensitive. I am Only thing that has calmed that for any length of time is prednisone therapy of 20mg with 44 tablets over 2 weeks. It helps offer me more comfort less issues pop up for about 4 months is longest I can go. But still searching for something to find out the complete issue to treat or stop even reverse.

Something I do is super filters on my water for my home and at each sink clothing I'm ultra sensitive a lot but unsure if related or not. I could go on for longer than anyone cares to know or read but so far I'm the only one that I personally know it has such a sensitivity to toilet tissue and actually has to carry my own no matter where I go so I can enjoy the "go".

I hope you have more comfortable resolution to your discomfort. I really just think it's mainly because we're sensitive people and the more they processed things I mean our food is so over possessed it's not hard to believe that everything else is way over processed and over farmed and over and with as the bamboo it does not have to be because it's regeneration rate is so fast they don't need to heavily over process it. Maybe that logic is where it all begins when the major paper mills have bad water they use to process the paper, the more it's processed the more the bad water is "imprinted" on what years ago was milder and safe. If that makes sense...

Thanks for sharing your experiences. I have also become ultrasensitive. Especially bad are scents, because the scents mean there are chemicals in the air. I am thinking about buying an Air Doctor. Any thoughts on the best air filterers?

Unscented, uncolored TP is the way to go.

Cotton toilet paper
A number of years ago I had the same issues with the soreness, and even it was starting to smell. Told my family doctor they checked me no I didn’t have an infection. No they couldn’t see anything but I was cleaning myself too hard and I was really red and.
Then I figured out that my nose was so sore from using Kleenex tissues, and I changed over to cotton handkerchiefs. Within 24 hours, my nose was so much better.
I went to my allergy doctor and I told him what I had figured out.
Then he told me I should switch to cotton toilet paper only.
For two years, I carried little bundles of Cottonelle toilet paper with me Because using wood base toilet paper, one time made me really sore.
Cottonelle is the only toilet paper that I know is made from cotton.
I have a rather severe allergy to trees, which means I’m having trouble with my toilet paper
Good luck, but switch to Cotton nail toilet paper

Thanks for another good idea. Cottonelle may be more available in a lot of areas than bamboo options. I keep switching to non-disposable options for paper towels, napkins, etc but always backslide to convenient throw aways. Just one more reason to stick to old style.

Thank you for sharing. I thought it was just. I have had irritations also. We are on a septic system and use special toilet paper. But now I am going reevaluate to paper i am using. i have tried over the counter vaginal creams that have helped. Thinking about a Bidet. Their are some that can be attach on your toilets. Have one in masterbath.

I had the same issue but mine was due to the preservative in Cottenelle wipes. The preservative is METHYLISOTHIAZOLINONE. I had to search for toilet paper and wipes without this preservative. I am now using Costco brand Kirkland toilet paper or BJ's own brand and Caboo bamboo wipes. Please research this preservative to see what the FDA says about it.

In the EU-
“The dramatic rise in the rates of reported cases of contact allergy to MI, as detected by diagnostic patch tests, is unprecedented in Europe; there have been repeated warnings about the rise. The increase is primarily caused by increasing consumer exposure to MI from cosmetic products; exposures to MI in household products, paints and in the occupational setting also need to be considered. The delay in re-evaluation of the safety of MI in cosmetic products is of concern to the SCCS; it has adversely affected consumer safety.[9]”
“The American Contact Dermatitis Society named methylisothiazolinone "contact allergen of the year" in 2013.[10] The North American Contact Dermatitis Group found that methylisothiazolinone caused 10.9% positive reactions, being the third most common contact allergen in patch test results which surveyed close to 5000 contact dermatitis patients.[11] “

After my son returned from the Peace Corps in Africa, he insisted we do a bidet retrofit on our toilet, but I still use some tp. I tried cloths but at my age, I need to go often and that was not feasible. I am hopeful about the bamboo.

I forgot to add that I switched to wearing cotton underwear. I been wondering about the recyled fabrics that are being used in clothing also. i swear there are some that I am sensitive to.
