I do appreciate your comments because it is true, most vitamins from the B group are good for neuropathy. I am having and injection of B12 every two weeks, vitamin B1, and I have vitamin B6 which is also good, but can also be bad for neuropathy. Today I ordered a blood work to see how it is.
I was told by the neurologist, after the EMG test, that the myelin in my tibial and peronial nerves were damaged beyond repair.
I am feeling much better with the treatment I am following.

Hi, have you by chance experienced any "facial flushing" as it's called? I take 200mg daily, because I just started this a week ago, and it seems to be helping my peripheral neuropathy in my feet (hands not so much) but I've been experiencing hot flash type feelings in my face.

I take 900 mg a day of R Alpha Lipoic Acid (R ALA). That is 300 mg three times daily. As a result, I have been able to reduce gabapentin dosage in half, from 2400 mg daily to 1200 mg. My mild diabetic neuropathy is now pretty well controlled. I drink at least 8 oz of water with each R ALA capsule to avoid slight upset stomach.

Hi Nancy @nancysav, I've been taking 1200 mg na-R-ALA daily (600mg morning/evening) for quite a few years along with other supplements. I haven't experienced any facial flushing from the ALA but did find a research paper that mentions it.

"Results
The 600 mg dose was well tolerated. At the 800 mg dose, one subject had an intolerable flushing sensation. At the 1,200 mg dose, two subjects had intolerable upper gastrointestinal side effects and one subject had an intolerable flushing sensation. Subjects taking gastrointestinal prophylaxis medications had no upper gastrointestinal side effects.

Conclusion
High-dose ALA is not completely tolerated by the elderly. These preliminary data suggest that gastrointestinal prophylaxis may improve tolerability."

GoodRX has a list of medications that can cause the flushing along with some other causes - https://www.goodrx.com/health-topic/dermatology/why-is-my-face-red,

@nancysav , No I have not experienced facial flushing, even when I was taking 2400 mg a day. I was back down to 900 mg per day. But now am back up to 1500.😕

This corrects my last message. I was correct in saying no facial flushing with R ALA. I now take 1200 mg a day (4 x 300). By the way, I am now also taking 1500 mg daily of gabapentin.

Why are some people taking ALA at very high doses when the literature recommends 600 mg per day , why exceed that?

Good luck with it. Isn't two 600 mg pills daily double the recommended dose?
I tried 600 mg daily and found no benefit.

@perineuro21 Thank you for your insight; I am taking three 600 mg at once daily. I verify this to be sure what is right.

@blowerk1216, I take 1200 mg (4x300) of R ALA because I think it has helped me reduce the amount of gabapentin I take, which unfortunately is now back up to 1500 mg a day. I have taken as little as 300mg of R ALA and as much as 2400 mg of gabapentin. I have been adjusting my dosages of both depending on how well my neuropathy responds. I have neuropathy from diabetes and also the result of back surgery many years ago. I am aware that I take more of the R ALA than is supported in the studies I have read. I believe the medical risk is low in taking 1200mg of R ALA. However I am spending about $2.00 a day. Which is a good down payment on a cup of coffee.🤔

@nancysav No, I haven't and I don't know what it is.
Would you, kindly, explain me what it is?
Thanks
