Atrial fibrillation impact activity ? (Exercise, walking, intimacy)

Atrial fibrillation seems to vary in symptoms, severity, and progression.
If you have Atrial fibrillation or know someone with the diagnosis,
Is exercise still authorized?
Walking 7 to 10 thousand steps still ok?
Lifting weights, pull-ups?
Sexual intimacy?
Does ablation or cardioversion help maintain activities?
Thank you

ARe you in persistent or paroxsymal afib. I' ve struggled with Afib for 10 yrs however mine was paroxsymal so infrequent bouts When Im not in afib (most of the time) I maintain an active lifestyle. Its sorta self corecting if I'm in afib i can't do much except sit or go slow

@tallbackhip I had paroxysmal once a year or so and it did not interfere with my tolerating any activities other than during the few hours it was active- then I was wiped out but I just sat, read a good book and enjoyed the time out. Everyone’s different though. Since last December it’s been a whole different story- after 2 weeks of persistent afib during which I was pretty nonfunctional I have very limited capacity. Also have big “plumbing” problems w MVP though. Best to you!

I was in persistent Afib until I received a PFA and then I was Afib free for about 8 months with my pulse in the 70s. No meds except Eliquis. Then over a 3 month period I had 2 RVR episodes with pulse hovering around 175. Visits to the ER and back on Diltiazem 180MG. If I did any moderate level exercise I would have a bout of Afib that would last anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours. Just sit around then I would be back in sinus rhythm. But, my pulse was in the 80s when resting. Now over the last 2 months or so my pulse has gone back down to the 70s during the day, and nighttime it is in the 60s. I am back to long walks in the morning interspaced with some running. My pulse goes into the tachycardia range over 100, but no Afib. Sit and veg out in front of the computer and pulse goes back down below 100 and keeps dropping. Maybe it took some time for the Diltiazem to start working or I don't know what. All I know is that I can now exercise and do heavy work around my place like stacking 100 lb bales of hay with no Afib.

I am 82 years old and when in Afib I just try to continue all activities. I started in persistent Afib with RVR in March 2023 and it took 6 months to get back in sinus rhythm. Those six months were not fun as when I am in AFib heart rate jumps up and down, almost always above 100 and sometimes as high as 175 or more. Rate control drugs did not work. They did nothing for AFib and caused fatigue and low blood pressure. In September 2023 I was loaded with Tikyson (Dofetilide) and after 10 months started having occasional breakthrough episodes. They would last about 36 hours and then self convert. I have Apical Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy so while ablation is an option, would probably take up to 3 tries to work. So, I guess my answer is, when in AFib, I just try to go about my regular life including exercise. Am now taking Jardiance for my ApHcm and to help with Afib breakthrough and have only had two six hour episodes in a year. So, my advice for anyone in Afib is to do whatever is comfortable for you.

@suerte
I have paroxysmal. Can I come over and stack those bales of hay with you?
